PRyanHarding
New user here. I'm about to purchase a 1987 '62 reissue SG and just wanted to make sure that this headstock (in particular the gibson logo) is correct for this era/model. Thanks a lot! Dub-T-123
Looks good to me.
dickey
It looks OK to me, but to be sure, check the back of the headstock to make sure it has the "wings" on either side. But there is another issue here that might make me pass this axe. Look at the top of the truss rod cover. The plastic eyelet is snapped off. Looks like it was overtightened till it broke. Makes me wonder what damage he did to the truss rod?! Only a heavy handed shoemaker would be that careless.
Dub-T-123
The plastic could have cracked due to expanding or contracting over the years. It's not too terribly uncommon. Look at old SGs... many times the pickguard will crack around the screws. I hope it doesn't happen to mine.
intenseiam
looks good to me but I'd get a new truss rod cover if i were you
iangibson
My two 80's SG Standards (although not '62 re-issue.) Left is 1985 and right 1986. The '62 Re usually sports the open b & o logo, but I've seen a few with a closed b & o style logo. If the serial # is 8xxx7xxx and there's the spacer plate between the neck pup and the fingerboard end, I wouldn't worry.
Blackie
That a cig burn on the right one at the A tuner ?
iangibson
I think so. It was already there when I got the guitar. SG and a cig burn...must be a Clapton thing.
iangibson
Here's a picture of a 1989 SG Re-issue model. This Gibson logo is typical to the model in the 80's until early 90's. Like I said, however, there are SG Re-issues with a closed b/o logo out there.
