matbard
Hello guys, I've upgraded my Dark Fire RIP with the new firmware and Console application on my Mac Pro 8-core. However, I can use the whole package only at 44.1 or 48 kHz, because selecting the other supported resolutions (88 and 96) cause the app to hangs. I cannot select them either in Guitar Rig 4 or Ableton because I have the same results. Anyone experienced the same? - Matteo
BobTheDog
It does the same with my MacPro! The RIP in general performs pretty badly from what I can see. Maybe they should have got RME to make it!

MattG
Hello- Could you both please specify which version of Mac OS X you are using? Thanks, Matt
MattG
Hello, So far, we have not been able to reproduce this, despite trying with several different Macs and several versions of OS X. We will continue to investigate this issue. In the meantime, one option would be to downgrade your RIP to the original 5.0 firmware. To do so, you will need to download the 5.0 Mac console from this page: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/DarkFire/Software.aspx Once you have installed and opened the 5.0 console, select the Settings tab and click the About button. Then, click on "Update RIP". Due to the holiday break, we will not be able to address this as quickly as we would like. I will post an update the week of January 4th, 2010. matbard
Hi MattG, I'm using the Dark Fire RIP on a Mac Pro 8-core 2.8 GHz, plugged on the front FW400 port. I'm using OSX 10.6.2. The old 4.8 doesn't have this issue. It's the only device plugged on that port.
MattG
Hello everyone, While we have not been able to reproduce this problem, we have made improvements to the device firmware that should help. We are in the process of testing these changes. We should be able to post an update by the end of this week. Regards, Matt
matbard
Thank you Matt, you're very supportive. The RIP is a cool piece of gear. Any chance that in the near future Mac users like me would have a multiclient driver to use more Echo interfaces without using aggregatre devices under Core Audio? MattG
Hello, Thanks for the compliment. Could you please clarify why you would rather not use CoreAudio aggregate devices? We are still testing the new firmware and will post it as soon as possible. Regards, Matt
matbard
Usually, CoreAudio aggregate devices introduces a lot of latency. I tried the RIP with other brands' devices and the results aren't very satisfactory... I'd like to have a proprietary driver (similar to the RME one) to use the RIP and i.e. the Audiofire Pre8 daisychained with the Firewire connection as an unique device, to have simultaneously the Dark Fire input and digital outputs... MattG
Hello, We have made changes to the RIP firmware that will hopefully resolve this problem. To update the firmware, just download and install this updated console: Echo FireWire Console 5.5.2 Please let me know your results.
