sjl200
A Gibson acoustic with a "Custom shop" logo on the back of the head stock means what? What is it about "that Guitar" that requires or determines it gets the CS logo? When or how does "Gibson" decide a CS logo is assigned or NOT warranted? Is "it" a special Guitar? OK so those are my dumb questions thanks.........
pohatu771
I'm not an expert, but from what I've seen, the Custom Shop-labelled instruments are those that aren't standard production models, or limited editions.

OK so who decides to 'construct" a non-standard production model , is it a customer or a Bozeman boss or what ? I'm just wondering because I see some CS shop guitars and wonder where the ideas comes from . Are they market driven or test market ideas. (some gone bad) Is it a custom 'order' that somehow ends up on the "market" as new . Just curious....

pohatu771
The majority, I imagine, are non-standard finishes, non-standard wood choices, signature models, and reissues. Adirondack J-45s, Kristofferson SJs, and the 1968 J-45 in Cherry and Ebony.
QuestionMark
The market, anticipated market, and Gibson dealers plus the vintage guitar market and its demand all are in the mix. Plus, what Gibson at the time feels it can produce on a custom basis rather than as a standard model. QM aka Jazzman Jeff
sjl200
Thank you all for the insights. Let me ask do you think these CS Guitars receive any "extra" attention when being built? Other then the ordered differences..... Do they receive more attention to detail then a production run model, or is it just a logo that gets attached on the same production line as "stock" models if they got the "custom color/ upgraded tuners ect...ect.... More meaning :attention to detail and a more deliberate build: like selecting the wood ,if its only a finish that is different or vise versa? Other then the ordered differences..... I don;t know the actual answer to this (I'm curious as well), but I can tell you, I own one CS Gibson, and it seems to be on an entirely different level that the non-CS version of the same model. Some of that is the superior wood, I'm sure, but beyond that it just seems to have and extra little something... I attribute it to more individual attention in the building process. sjl200
I'm curious too. I "ordered" a non-standard J-45 standard Different color and different electronics (then standard) and got to wondering what else is different with a custom shop It will be special to me but I got to thinking if its special to them that make it....I know all Gibson's are special but I imagine when something different moves down the 'line' some take notice ....for better or worse I guess I'd like to think better....but I'm always a glass half full type of person....thankfully.... any way about 4 more weeks I'm guessing before I know the truth at least for me...
