The Paul, anyone?

I came across a The Paul for sale' date=' and now I have a desire to buy it.

Have to sample it first, make sure it's worth the $.

Can you get it for $400-$500?

I'd think that'd be a good deal... and save it for 40 years then sell it and retire!

(don't take financial advice from me....I bought Planet Hollywood stock!)

PS.... Where would 4 hours from you be?

It's probably a very good guitar. Back in the late 70's or early 80's, Gibson put out a line called Firebrand which had a Les Paul and an SG; the Gibson logo looked like it was branded with a hot iron into the headstock and they pocked the wood a bit to give it an aged look. I'm pretty sure The Paul was part of the Firebrand line. I used to be in a band with a guy years ago who had a Firebrand SG and it was a very cool guitar.

From what I read the The Paul came first 1978-82, the the Firebrand, then the The Paul II.

The Pauls have the LP shape but are beveled, I think that's the term, like the sg at the edges of the body.

I think they are lighter than LPs as well...

Dan, I'd have to go to austin, and I think he'd let it go for 500 fo sho, though I'd propose 400 first [biggrin]

Dang... I had NO IDEA you were in Texas..... reminds me of time I was talking to a very rich Texas rancher...he was bragging....said, "You know, I can get in my pickup and drive all day and never leave my own property!" I said back to him, "Yeah...I had a pickup like that once."

LMFAO, that was good! Yes, in Texas we are used to driving long distances.

I used to drive 1.5 hours to school while I was in college.

I skipped class VERY often (still got the 3.45gpa, thought)

But 4 hours...you gotta be up in the panhandle or down near Corpus!

Not as good as what Austin has to offer.

By the way she most likely is in the Dallas area...

Could be..... I've driven from Dallas to Austin, don't recall it taking 4 hours.....(they drive FAST there!)....

As far as the food... I've never been to Nashville.... but I'd eat a hot dog in Nashville as opposed to prime rib in Austin....

Sorry for the sidetrack.

Nashville has a lot of chain restaurants, you have to dig around to find a different flavor. It is not bad but could be better.

Austin has a ton of local restaurants that really differentiate themselves with their recipes. The "Keep Austin Weird" o supporting local business makes things interesting.

Hmmm. I have no experience with a 'The Paul'. I played a SG Firebrand a couple years back. I really dug it. I think they're cool guitars. Go for The Paul, it's a pretty unique Gibson, and they're getting more and more rare. I've been looking for one of these (I think they were called a 335-S) for a bit now...

The Paul is a nice guitar came out to compete with fenders that were taking over the world in 78-79 so Gibson released the lower cost Paul to compete. They had a great feel and good tone usually with open coil pickups and natural covers they looked good also. similar in shape and size to the LP but as you suggested Izzy a bit thinner and flat topped.

The Paul and the L6-s model from these years was the true bargain used gibson at 400-500 they were a bargain the price on the L6-S has doubled in the last few years leaving the Paul as one of the only bargain LP's out there. Ive never known anyone that owned a Paul that didn't like the sound and feel.

Good luck if you decide to take the trip you'd enjoy the guitar.

Sorry to sidetrack your thread Izzy.

Actually I recall Surfpup used to have a "The Paul"' date=' I am sure he will pitch in when he logs on here.[/quote']

No worries. I live in HOUSTON, but I drive like a grandma #-o

The food in Austin is omg, so GOOD, that a sidetrack is warranted!

Casino El Camino burgers are what I'd have...I don't eat meat usually, but I eat two burgers when I go to Austin; THAT good.

As for the The Paul, I've yet to hear back but with luck I'll get a go.

Thanks for the info and advise ^^V
