Riverside
I have an HDTV, and an older DVD player. Seems to work just fine, but as the newer technology becomes more affordable, what are things to look for in a Blu-ray player? Thanks in advance. pohatu771
For me, it's Profile 2.0/BD-Live capability and a network connection option. Ethernet at least, but you may want Wi-Fi as well. Also, some televisions have a feature where you can control both the set and the Blu-ray player through one remote. I know Sony and Samsung both have these options, as long as your player and TV match up.

pohatu771
1080p is standard on all players - it's the television you have to make sure about. I fully recommend using an HDMI cable to connect your components, of course. Also, if you're looking into surround sound in the future, I recommend a Blu-ray Home Theater package. It'll save a lot of time and money later on. I have the Blu-ray player and want to add surround sound, and it's very hard to find one that won't add an unnecessary DVD player to my rack of equipment.
