fl_lefty
I am left handed and am looking to buy a Gibson guitar but can't afford the lowest priced left hand model I can find which is around $1150 used. I have seen a couple right hand double cutaway Les Pauls on ebay in the $600-$700 range. I am pretty sure having a new nut made is simple but was wondering about the bridge. Does it have to be replaced or can it be adjusted. Is it worth it to do this or is there maybe a cheaper left hand production model that is actually available? Any info for a somewhat guitar newbie would be awesome.
Blackie
The bridge will have to be remounted with the angle reversed somehow I would think, unless you can find a harmonica type bridge and reverse the saddles.
RichCI
For the bridge, you should be able to just reverse the order of the saddles then reset the action and intonation. You might also want to adjust the height of the pickups.
EVOL!
The bridge should be fine since the saddles on a tune-o-matic are the same for all strings. Post nut installation you will need to adjust the saddles to correct the intonation, but that is a standard step. You can do it at home if you have a high end tuner (no, a Boss TU2 isn't accurate enough).
RichCI
Good point by Blackie about the angle of the bridge; that might stop you from ever getting the intonation right if you reversed the order of the saddles.
S t e v e
or you could learn to play right handed aswell and buy one of these...
fl_lefty
The bridge will have to be remounted with the angle reversed somehow I would think' date=' unless you can find a harmonica type bridge and reverse the saddles.[/quote'] so on a guitar like this http://www.vintage-guitars.se/1997_Gibson_LP_Double_Cutaway_Studio_black.jpg it would have to be remounted? After Googling harmonica bridge it looks like they are two pieces. So this type would be better? http://www.whitstableguitars.co.uk/Gibson%20Les%20Paul%20DC%20Cherry.jpg thanks again
fl_lefty
blackie gone? can anyone else verify harmonica bridge question?
EVOL!
So the guitar you are looking at has a one piece bridge (no tail piece)? Then you will need to find a one piece bridge with adjustable saddles. A lot of them out there. Try StewMac.com.
S t e v e
seems like a lot of aggro to me, just save up for a lefty or learn to play right hand...saving up is prob the best option.
