J-45 Custom Rosewood

I just got done playing a new J45 Custom Rosewood, no burst / plain sitka top, herringbone with floral inlay on headstock, below Gibson. Abalone single circle inlay around sound hole. Marked Custom on the truss rod cover. It had electronic dial & jack to plug in.

Is it possible to have the electronics removed, and have it straight acoustic? Does the metal end plug where jack goes in now have too big a hole for normal end plug? The store I was in didn't have anyone to ask, but do they take out if not wanted?

Has anyone seen these customs? I did like the sound, and I like the idea of a plain top, just because it would be cool to see it age. But for a 45, is the Mahogany better for that guitar?

The back braces were not rounded like you sometimes see, but squared off at the top.

Yes, but I dont know why you would do that. It doesn't really hurt anything. I'm assuming it's an under-saddle pickup. You'd need to get a new saddle or shim the old one. Visit Bob Colosi's site for info. And lots of folks (Colosi again) make end pins that fit in the 1/2" hole for a jack. You can find a bunch on Elderly.com.

There is no "better" or "best." If you like it, it's the best!

I own both and have to tell you that lately I have really been preferring the rosewood. There is no better one. Its all subjective and each guitar, even with the same woods, sounds different....

Birddude.....I removed the electronics in one of my acoustics, I did it at Gryphon's in Palo Alto....the tech added a 'dummy' end pin.....that Taylor guitars has for their guitars...cost me 10 bucks.....nice and clean, covers the hole where the original pickup plug was. Also I hear there are oversized end pins made from ebony and bone, etc....that will fit the hole of a removed pickup, but you need to ream out the hole so that it is tapered so that it will pressure fit. Another thing you can do is to remove the undersaddle pickup, I don't really like those, and put in a K&K system that adheres to the underside of the top of the guitar, with a new saddle, you will have the best of both worlds.......good luck with your conversion
