avidmusicfan
I am looking to purchase my first SG Custom. Trying to decide between a SG Custom Stopbar with a Tune-o-Matic or a SG Custom Reissue with an ABR-1. Have heard many conflicting things about which is better. Does anyone have any insight on this. Musically!
80LPC
I think you would just hear similar conflicts here But to get the ball rolling - the Nashville has a wider range of adjustment, securely located saddles, larger bridge screws and is a more rigid design. Oh, one more thing - it doesn't rattle and buzz.
avidmusicfan
Thanks! I just started playing again after a long time off and all my gibsons have a ABR-1 bridge.

Gibsonfreak909
I preffer the Nashville, the ABR-1 is an older design, yet it's feature on more of the high end guitars however, probably due to vintage purists.
Blackie
You won't hear any rattle or buzzing if ya dancin with some high wattage into 4 by or 8 by 12's. But if'n you gonna play coustic like ona curb by the lika store then your buzzy rattling bridge will add to the ambiance of the situmation...dig
80LPC
I find my playing is much better when I stay away from the liquor store
Reynolds_wRap
I think both designs are great. Some people do say the abr-1 allows you to get the stopbar closer to the body without the strings hitting the back of the bridge, thus giving you better sustain, but I have only had experience with the nashville bridge. 80LPC
Of course, some would say neither design can hold a candle to the stopbar bridge...

dickey
Go for the stopbar. The Maestro, while nice looking & better for balance, robs sustain. I've A-B'd them in music stores several times, & found the stopbar sustains almost TWICE as long as the Maestro. I prefer the Nashville over the ABR; it is a more stable design & the posts are screwed into studs instead of wood. a better design IMHO than the ABR, & silly vintageness be damned; if it is a new guitar, it ain't vintage, so who cares--I'd rather have the newer, better design, & save vintage "vibe" for cosmetics only, like finish & bevels! Also IMHO, I don't think it makes any difference where the stopbar is adjusted. Tried that too;no difference.
