yatyas
i could use a little advice here, i've got a 2008 standard , plays great, except the neck pickup sounds a little harsh, single notes sound sorta ok, but hit a chord and it comes out of amp like a sledge hammer, i've lowered the height from factory setting, and it smoothed out pretty good but i'm having trouble dialing it in. if anyone can give me some recommendations of whats good for them (neck and bridge height) maybe it'll give me some good starting points to go from. haven't been playing for long , i'm really just a guy with a couple of fancy guitars, so any advice will save me from 1 paying someone else to do it and 2 , keep me from pulling my hair out 1 strand at a time. thanks
greeny_lp85
How does the guitar sound at the bridge position? I think I understand the problem you're having. From your description it seems you have good ears for those little details. I don't like to say it, but the chambered body does play a part here, combined with the BB Pro neck humbucker. It has the tendency to be warm (boomy/undefined in the lows), while at the same time it's harsh/thin in the higher mids. Lowering or raising the pickup doesn't help. A pickup change can solve this problem to a certain degree, but it's always a guess if it takes away of the harsness you're talking about. The ideal neck humbucker to solve your problem would be a pickup with tight bass response and thick, but clear high mids. I recommend you trying an alnico IV pickup for the neck position with vintage attitude. What kind of music do you play?

max2343
Get a different amp or at least start with getting a few vintage 30 spreakers
Lowdown
Before you try any of those things - save yourself some bikkies and get a lower value pot. The neck pots tend to be 500k. So try a 300k. like the bridge should be. Will only cost you $5 for a good CTS.
yatyas
o.k , i'm gonna try new amp ,was soon to buy one anyway ,thinking either EGNATER or TRAYNOR. there's a couple others im looking at so will see. after that i'll try new pots then pickups. read the specs. on the web site, new BURSTBUCKER PRO pups , and a new type of pot. made to be more intense, so maybe they just made it this way ? dunno! it's not terribly harsh after lowering the pups but still a little much. still a kickass guitar to play just going to take a little tweaking . thanks for your input . anymore ideas throw them at me
