jnastynebr
I have owned a maple neck standard blonde top LP for just over a year now. After some cleaning/ tweeking the other day, I noticed that the binding is cracking in three places on the treble side of the neck between the 7th and 20th frets. The gold hardware is wearing off the bridge and and bridge pup quite heavily. There is also some light checking where the arm rests. I bought it to play, and play I have. It has seen action and been banged around, but I have been careful to take care of it, and it has not seen any radical temp/ climate changes. I knew this thing would see some time in the trenches, and would eventually become a reliced beauty, but is it unrealistic to expect the binding and gold plate on the hardware to last more than a year? Maybe I should have bought a studio?
BigKahune
Gold hardware fades - the more you play the faster it fades/wears. Not unusual. But cracked binding, in a year - no way. If you're the original purchaser, contact Gibson CS.
retrosurfer1959
Yep the binding is unusual in a year but gold hardware fades and wears fast thats why so many people won't use it. I have 80+ guitars and two have gold hardware for that exact reason. the two that do have the gold are Gretsch and their gold hardware plating is much stronger and last years and years before any issues
loneguitar
The binding is not normal, the bridge and covers are the more you play, pics would help. But best to contact Gibson CS and see what they have to say.
