Slash and Gibson - just sayin....

Just read someone in another thread saying the Slash signature model was loaded with 50 years of American rock n' roll heritage (etc).... Ok - go USA - Gibson rules n' all that, but... (without wanting to invite tonnes o' flaming...)

- Slash's most defining work (Appetite) was NOT played on a Gibson. Fact.

- Slash was barely even American at the time (British born and bred)

- He DID however play a British Amp (Marshall) ok - it was seriously modded.

My point - maybe us Brits have more 'claim' to the whole Slash sound phenomenon?

I'm just trying to say something provocative and interesting - better than "got my new R9 today..."

Prepare for a flame war bud, you just said that tons of peoples favorite guitarist doesn't play a Gibson like everyone thought.... on a GIBSON forum. But for me, what does it matter?

Not my favorite, you wanna say he isn't American? okay..... go ahead [crying][angry]:-({|= :-({|=

I thought it was fairly well known that the LP he used was a copy, especially to the die hard fans. As to where he's from, born, raised, had his musical learning period or whatever, I'm not sure it matters all that much these days. Rock has taken quite a few trips back and forth across the atlantic now, so who cares.

Well said. Some decent debate on here for a change! I don't think it matters either. As for the copy side of things - I don't mind that it was a copy, at all.

Well if you mean born and bred as born and lived their until elementary school age then yes you are right. You should read Slash's book, a very interesting read. He went to Beverly Hills 90210 high school, no joke.

I didn't know it was an all out copy' date=' i thought it was a gibson guitar that some dude took away and modded/changed to be more exact to a 59'[/quote']

nope. it's a replica made by derrig...a better guitar than anything gibson had been making since 1960.

the funny part is that gibson is now making a signature version of this guitar and all the fanboys will run out and buy it.

Exactly my point. If you've blown thousands on a Slash Sig and you're sat learning 'Appetite' note for note I think it's worth knowing it wasn't a Gibson he was using on that recording. This isn't aimed at die hard Slash fans either - it's aimed at Gibson shoving Slash down our throat at every opportunity. Even now he doesn't use Gibson pups - and he never did.

Its important sometimes to break misconceptions - I'm not against endorsements - I mean, the Les Paul is technically an endorsed guitar - I dunno, aside from the USA/Britain thing, at least one person on this thread has learnt something that I would be amazed to see stated on Gibson's nice slick website.
