FYI: Quilted Mahogany

Someone here was looking for a J-45 with Qulited mahogany. There is one on ebay now with a red spruce top for a reasonable price.

I like the looks of this one more than the one I bought at Homecoming last year--it does not have the fancy abalone inlay.

(**This is a do-it-yourself GAS intervention).

I bought it Jeff. Despite my attempted GAS intervention by trying to get someone else to buy it, I was weak. I miss the one I sold--and the Adi top and lack of abalone rosette appeal to me. I've been gassing for a Bozeman J-45.

I emailed the seller before I posted earlier asking if he would lower to $1750 (the price I sold mine for). I knew once I sent that email that I needed to get someone to buy it or I was a GAS goner.

I have WAY too many guitars. So look for me to sell (at purchase cost plus repair costs) all my vintage Gibsons except the Banner LG-2 in the near future. But I think the '46 J-46 is already spoken for.

Sell a guitar? Surely you jest. The '46 J-45 would be very interesting to me...

Could you define that' date=' please? How do you know when you've hit the limit? I didn't think there was such a thing.[/quote']

When these 2 things are all used up:

1) the money in the bank account

2) the good hiding places unknown to spouse.

nid2007,

Congrats on buying a fine looking quilted J45...but... While I agree with buying the natural eye candy of a new quilted hog,... and I have a quilted Martin D18AG,... I would have to be hard pressed to ever part with a 1946 J45!

Thats because the best acoustic I have ever played was a 1946 J45. It belonged to a ex-mother-in-law, so I do not get to vist it any more. Find a way to keep both, as you can't replace 62 years of ageing.

I also agree with keeping the LG-2, I spent the day with mine, a non-banner, 48 thru 52 model???

Again, I feel you have great taste in guitars.

Dale.

Thanks Dale. I actually decided to sell the '46 J-45 well before this, so it is not reactive--which is good. I had been looking for a banner LG-2 and stumbled into the '46 J-45 during that search. I totally agree with what you are saying, but it will never be my go-to guitar, so it is better off with someone else. I'm glad to have expereince it--it sounds WONDERFUL, but it is not me. Truth be told, no guitar I've ever played suits me more than my SWD--I think I'm lucky for that.

I sold my last J-45 Quilt to justify the purchase of a 000-18GE. Another nice guitar, but the V neck never felt right; I much prefer the rounded fat neck on my LG-2. Like the '46 J-45 will hopefully be eventually, that 000-18GE is now with someone that it fits perfectly.

I'm hoping that this j-45 I got today will not be about its looks. I'm looking forward to a Bozeman Adi topped guitar and seeing how it opens up with time. Hopefully I'll like it a lot and get to find out.
