This might sound ridiculous and

it is going to sound kinda obvious but I gotta ask it.

I like the full sized semi hollow guitars, but $2000 is my absolute limit. I refuse to go over that amount but I can't justify most things over that amount.

I was thinking of settling on a Gibson ES 339, nice semi hollow, full binding, but the smaller size bugs me a bit. I just love how the full sized semis look.

The alternate would be an upgraded Epiphone Lucille. Pups, Wiring everything.

I cant justify the 335 satin, especially since there is no neck binding and it is not available in VS.

Which would you pick? Gibson 339 or Upgraded Epi Lucille...?

Like I said, obvious to most.

Why not the satin? That is the one I am looking at, I actually like the Satin finish on it, especially the cherry, it feels nice to me. No neck binding? who cares?!?! I can deal with a different color since I prefer it but to each his own. I would seriously reconsider the satin, have you played one?

Like you, I don't exactly care for the size of the 339, it is fine, but still a little awkward, I like the full size of a 335. If the Lucille is what you want, go for it. If you want the 339, go for it.

It just doesn't seem right to pay 2200 for something with no neck binding and no VS when the left handed version has VS available...

I mean, I figure the 339 is better, but....

Nope, and thats the reason for all the billions of questions, that I generally have. they don't sell gibsons in this part of the Caribbean and everything that I have bought was based on videos on utube and some questions here.

get what feels best to you bud. I know there are some cork sniffers here, but some people here (I believe Sear) has an Epi Sheraton. Sure there are upgrades, but if it feels right, go for it.

You have to play it, not us. I don't care how cool something looks if it doesn't feel right.

I had the same delima a little over a year ago. I have a hard time justifying multiple thousands of dollars for one guitar and I really wanted an ES-335 - Mr. 335 model especially since I'm a huge Larry Carlton fan.

I'm not a fan of satin finish nor of the smaller body size of the 339. I was going to just buy an epi dot and give her a complete overhaul but then I played the epi dots and wasn't too impressed. They were ok but it didn't feel like a guitar I would want to play every day.

Then I was reminded of the Epiphone Elitist series of guitars. I ended up getting an Epiphone Elitist Dot right before they stopped making them. I would put this guitar up against any regular Gibson production line and perhaps any custom shop guitar ~ it's that good. It plays better than any of my other guitars; this is my "go to" guitar.

Here is one for sale on Ebay - Elitist Dot for $1150.

The only Elitist line they make now is the Casino and Sweetwater music has them for $1500

Just thought I'd throw out another option for you.

Of the two you mentioned, I would pick the 339 over the lucille but that's just me.

Yea, but even so, the price of the 339 when converted to local currency is phenomenal. About 12000 I believe...

Lucille is like 4400

Have you taken math, or are you serious about those prices?

12,000 for a 339? What the hell is going on?

I think MSRP on a Gibson Lucille is 4400 :-

I am lost... :-s

Come on Fred...look at the location. I don't live in the States. The prices I quoted, are what I have to pay when I convert US prices to local prices. Thats why I have billions of threads on the same topic over and over again.
