Phaze11111
Hi all. I’m having a problem with my new Gibson Dusk Tiger. The preset tone bank (green bank) does not seem to be working. When I pull out the MCK and strum the DT (blue bank) it tunes fine then automatically switches to the green(tone preset) bank. However when I turn the MCK to select one of the preset tones, all the tones sound exactly the same in my opinion. Also both the volume knobs and tone knob do nothing when the MCK is out in the tone preset mode. When I push the MCK all the way in the knobs all work. Am I doing something wrong or is my Dusk Tiger defective? Without a proper manual I don’t know what to do next. Gibson should be embarrassed selling a piece of electronic equipment with out a complete, proper manual. Thank you in advance for any assistance or advice! rockstar232007
Since this the first launch, I would assume that like the Robot, Dusk Fire, etc there will be A LOT of problems (that probably won't go away anytime soon). If it's an electronics/computer problem, the ONLY way to get it fixed will be to send it to Gibson, and since it's under warranty, you should have no problem getting it fixed for free. Crackity Jones
I have exactly the same problem. Additionally, when the piezo/magnetic blend knob is turned fully toward magnetic, the pickup selector switch does nothing to the tone. I've also noticed that if the piezo knob is turned even partially towards the piezo end of the spectrum, the pickup selector, tone and volume knobs regain some functionality. I do notice a change in the preset tones, although it is fairly subtle. I'm in the UK and I've emailed the European support team. I'll post back here if I get any information. BobTheDog
Hi Guys, I posted this on the futureguitarnow forum to the same question, so here it is again: Hi, The green presets do sound pretty similar, try this: Choose preset 5, put both pickup volumes to full and the pickup selector in the middle. Play a bit and then reduce the bridge volume a little, the tone should sound fairly similar. Now choose preset 6 with both volumes up full and play a bit, this should sound more tinny, now turn the bridge pickup down you will notice the tone getting much fuller and bassy. now turn both volumes up again and reduce the neck volume slightly, now you should have a very trebly resonator type sound sound if you carry one reducing the volume slightly it will become a bit fuller. Cheers Andy
BobTheDog
Also try the yellow presets. Have a look on this page for some usefull info on the presets from Tronical: http://www.futureguitarnow.com/forum/index.php?topic=776.
BobTheDog
Also from Tronical on how to get the other yellow banks: - To access Yellow User bank selection (“USR”, G-position) activate the tuning system by pulling on the knob - now give the MCK sequent 4 soft presses ("enter") to access the red bank (the color in the center and or b / # indicate the bank you are in) - Now turn on the MCK to the outer "G" LED position and give it a sustained press ("Enter"). You are now in Yellow User bank selection (“USR”, G-position)!! This allows selection of one of 8 available user banks, which is then accessible in Preset mode. On activation, the currently selected user bank is shown in the center display. Additionally, the corresponding outer LED of the bank number is lit blue. The user can turn the MCK to select a different bank. Pressing Enter will activate the selected bank. The presets of the activated bank are then accessible in Preset mode. If a different bank than the first one is selected, the corresponding outer LED will also be lit blue in Preset mode to indicate the active bank to the user. If the MCK is on an invalid position (> , the MCK will show an “X” as indication. The user bank selection function can be left by pressing Enter on an unused MCK position. BobTheDog
And another gem from Tronical on how to stop the yellow bank entering tuning mode when you select a preset: You can select whether the tuning in the Yellow user bank will be instantly activated or not via setup menu, # 24, which will be accessible via the function menu (Red bank). - Activate the tuning system by pulling on the knob - now give the MCK sequent 4 soft presses ("enter") to access the red bank (the color in the center and or b / # indicate the bank you are in). You are in function menu (Red bank). - Now turn fully counter clockwise on the MCK.. -To enter the setup menu, Enter needs to be pressed for longer than one second. The display will show a white enter symbol. Then Enter needs to be pressed again for more than one second. The display will show a cyan enter symbol. You are in setup mode now!! The setup menu allows access to setup parameters and functions that control the system behavior. To change a setup parameter, first its ID needs to be entered, then the value to be set. Entering numbers is done by sequentially turning the MCK to the digits and pressing Enter. When the whole number has been entered, the MCK must be turned to the enter position (fully counter-clockwise) and Enter pressed. The MCK will show the entered number and flash the outer LEDs for confirmation. After the parameter ID has been entered, the MCK will show a question mark to signal that the parameter value can be entered. Entry of the parameter value is performed in the same manner as for the setup parameter ID. When entering the value is finished, the MCK shows a confirmation by displaying the value and flashing the outer LEDs. The system then returns to setup option number input. Exiting the Setup menu is performed by pressing Enter for more than one second. - Access # 24 in the manner described above and set its value to "1"! This switch determines how a preset is loaded in Preset Mode (yellow). In the default setting, both tuning and sound of a preset are activated. This causes the system to start the tuning process on preset activation. In the sound activation setting (=1), only the sound of that preset is loaded. Activating the tuning is still available via a long Enter.
Phaze11111
Thanks for your fast replies. My issue has been resolved and there is actually nothing wrong with my Dusk Tiger. It is indeed operator error...me! My problem was the Piezo blend was mostly on. Also when I used the RIP the Piezo was all the way on. Once I turned the Piezo off everything works just fine. BobTheDog's test worked as he explained.....once I turned the Piezo off! Thanks again!
Crackity Jones
Yup - hands up time. Mine's fine too. I assumed that turning the piezo/magnetic blend knob toward the piezo pickup increased the amount of piezo. Wrong! Still - a manual would've helped. Activating the tuning is still available via a long Enter. Does this mean that the tunings are automatically activated for yellow tone banks 2 and 3 as well as for tone bank 1? if so, what is lost if the automatic setting is turned off? I'm assuming that if I select a specific tuning in the blue bank that it will not change when I then go to one of the yellow banks and select a preset tone. Is that correct? I guess I'm missing the point of having the factory-set tones in yellow be activated with a specific tuning for each one. Thanks for any information. Jonne
Hello, I got my Dusk Tiger yesterday. I have a problem to change the sound banks. After the tuning it goes to the green bank but nothing happens when pushing the button four or fourhundred times. Nothing happens when I push it more than few seconds. I can't go forward no matter what I do. Is my guitar broken or does it has stupid owner? Maybe both :)
