The Most Overplayed Songs

"Classic Rock Radio" in general! Too much of which is hardly "Classic"...IMHO.

They play those "hits" that were overplayed to begin with, and ignore

some great stuff, that was on albums, or even "hits" in their own right. Some of

those songs mentioned ARE "Great!" BUT...when they are (and were) played ad

nauseum, they become "diluted," and lose whatever power, and even meaning,

they had to begin with. 12 song rotation killed most decent rock, anyway...and

ignored songs that were just as good, if not better! I remember when FM first

came of age, and you heard the most incredible music, that was NEVER played on

AM. Now FM might as well be "advertising jingle" music. Which is why I rarely

even listen to "radio" anymore.

But, to each his/her own I guess? ;>b

Perfectly put. I stopped listening to popular radio years ago. I cringed when I heard Zeppelin. Those songs used to mean so much more to me. The mystique of the fourth album is gone. Misty Mountain Hop sandwiched between We Are The Champions and Beatin The Odds. I remember when I first became aware of music and FM radio. People say I have an eclectic taste for music, but I heard most of it on our local FM station back in the 70s.

Can you imagine these songs played on the radio now?

Ballad of TV Violence by Cheap Trick

Rock and Roll Lovers by Larry Coryell

Sonic Reducer by the Deadboys

Back at the Roadhouse by Mackinaw, a local band

Panama Red by New Riders of the Purple Sage

Bastille Day by Rush

Stairway was heard hardly at all

Yeah, those were the days...huh? Whole albums, uninterupted...for the first time. I remember

buying music, from some artists, because of what I heard on their album, and NOT because of

the "hit" that was played (or, in some cases, overplayed). And, you could hear where a lot of

that music actually came from...the "roots" music, that AM (at least in my area) NEVER played.

Good stuff! "Eclectic" is GOOD!

Heck, around here "The New CORNtry" has killed most of the "Rock" stations!

Depressing as that might have been, it's not surprising, when the Rock stations

were playing the "same old, same old," all the time. Of course, "CORNtry"

does that, too. "Radio" is getting as dismal, as TV...scary as that might be?! LOL!
