dem00n
Is it a other saying for a soild state amp?
Dub-T-123
Basically, in very simple terms, it's a hybrid between tube & solid state. I really prefer all tube.
Silenced Fred
It is a hybird amp. Part tube, part solid state. I don't like the way they sound, go with all tube.

Corrosion of conformity
All tube is the best kind of amp for metal. Valvestates are made to trick people into buying a crappy amp. They're not worth your time or money.

Dub-T-123
I think you should try it out. You can find a used Marshall Valvestate halfstack cheap. And I can see how it would be good for your style. It's still all tube all the way for me.

Hey if i makes a nice tone who gives a **** what it is? OMG I´m going to be so flamed for tryin' to help a friend here... For metal I would go solid state with a tube pedal (like the rocktron silver dragon). It's what's given me the best results so far. For everything else: all tube setup! surfpup
Hey if i makes a nice tone who gives a **** what it is? Go for it. My only advice would be to make sure you play an all tube amp along side. The hybrids can sound pretty good until you hear them next to an all tube amp. If it holds its own there (to your ears) you are aces. If it doesn't you know not to waste your money.
Thundergod
Didnt dime use soild state? Yes he did, and a cheap one. For the entire cowboys from hell stuff and I don't care whose feelings it hurts: Cowboys from hell IS THE Dimebag tone.

For everything else: all tube setup! +1 I would have to agree, with those levels of distortion, often times solid state sounds better than tube. For metal, I think you might want to look at that. Tube has a nice grit that I like for rock and everything else. If it sounds good, go for it.

Thundergod
...by the way, when I say "Solid state amp" I mean "high end solid state" not "cheap a$$ 10 Watt convenience store solid state"
Corrosion of conformity
Didnt dime use soild state? That's true. Dimebag can get away with it because he's Dimebag. I wouldn't call Dean guitars the best for metal, but he made those work too.

Californiaman
Why are you arguing with dem00n? Don't you know it's like casting your pearls before swine. He don't get it. You can sing the virtues of tube amps till your blue in the face and he isn't going to listen. Murph, you can chime in anytime now. I'm looking forward to a good pile-on.
