Attention Gibson Customer Service - When will a full instruction manual for the DT be available?

When will a full instruction manual be available for my new Dusk Tiger? Gibson should be embarrassed for selling a $3000+ guitar (full of electronics) without a proper manual. The available "Quick Start" manual just isn't enough. Thank you in advance for your prompt response.

Surely the point of the original post was to ask when the manual will be available. To link to a post that says "I'm doing it" doesn't help. I am staggered that such an expensive guitar did not ship with a manual included and I, for one, would expect a paper manual to be included.

How long was the Dusk Tiger in development? Did it not occur to anybody to compile a manual during this period? A lot of the technology was carried over from the Dark Fire, so surely it's not beyond Gibson to issue a suitably amended manual.

I'm having issues with one of the tuners being a bit flaky - sometimes it tunes, at others it doesn't - and I'd like to know, for instance, how to perform a factory reset or explore other options such as string down and string up, but this level of detail is beyond the Quick Start Guide.

Over to you Customer Services - and please provide a bit more information than a link.

Crackity Jones,

sorry to hear about your tuner problem.

Sounds like a contacting problem of the servo motor.

Try to carefully unscrew the tuners hex nut, align its case with the black electronic box on the neck and screw tight again (12-15 inch-pounds torque), this should help.

Hold tight the tuners case with your second hand when screwing its hex nut at 12 to 15 inch-pounds!!.

Wow - thanks for the reply tronical.member. Wouldn't this invalidate my warranty? If not, I have as couple of questions.

1. I take it the hex nut is on the front of the headstock - if so I'll need to remove the string first. How do I do that?

2. To my admittedly untrained eye, the servo motor case doesn't appear to be aligned any differently to the others. How do I know when it is correctly aligned.

I have to say I am somewhat nervous about attempting the repair of such technology based upon a forum post and don't like the idea of the worst case scenario - I make it worse.

Crackity, you can detune the motor head manually as long as the MCK is not pulled out and energizing the tuner.. You would detune the string until its loose and then turn the string lock at the top of the tuner post counter clock wise with your hand to release the string. You can then proceed to undo the hex nut etc.

See the following post and linked document for some detail photos :

Very important piece of advice is not to overtighten the hex nut as you put it back. Read the link and attached document before you attempt any of this and if unsure / uncomfortable return your guitar to your dealer.

All the best.

How is the feel when turning the flaky tuner manually! I had the problem with my darkfire. When turning the tuner manualy, the flaky one was a little bit more rough! it look like the tuner-servo turns through! so had mostly the problem when tuning this string to a higher pitch! I had to send my guitar in for RMA! ...and waiting now!

Crackity,

1) Firstly, try to tighten the respective RoboHead by scewing its hex nut by 1/8 turn clockwise.Try to tune afterwards.

2) If it does not help remove the tuner and clean its contact pins, proceed like this:

- Remove the single string by activating the system, now fret that particular string at the 5th fret and plug that string. The RoboHead should unwind that particular string now, redo this procedure until the string is loose enough. If the RoboHead wont work, cut off the string with a pliers.

- Now unscrew the RoboHeads hex nut (12 mm wrench) on the front side of the headstock, remove the RoboHead and carefully clean the contacting pins on its case bottom side, afterwards clean also the contacting areas on the flat ribbon PCB on the guitars headstock.

- Now replace the RoboHead tuner by aligning its case with the black electronic box on the neck and screw tight again (12-15 inch-pounds torque).

Hold tight the tuners case with your second hand when screwing its hex nut at 12 to 15 inch-pounds!!

Well, the bottom line was I wasn't convinced about undertaking this myself, with the twin problems of me making things worse while at the same time invalidating my warranty. I took it back to the dealer I purchased it from. They had it looked at by the Gibson rep who couldn't fix it. It's been RMA'd and I hope to have it back in a week or so.
