Silverburst Fakes?

Papa Lazarou

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, just hoping someone here can help me.

I'm 99% sure these are fakes, but jsut in case they're not I'd like to get some opinions here.

I'm being offered them relatively cheap, but not cheap enough that I would instantly discount them as fakes, however the innacuracies of the burst, the headstock inlay and the trussrod cover are pretty iffy, which makes me think they're fake.

Any input?

Ya they are fakes but at I think they were 250.00-300.00 plus another 200.00to 300.00 forget it. They look pretty kool, real nice job for all the folks oversea's who can't come up with there own ****. They do offer everything in the gibson and fender line-up and I think on all of those they copied every detail on the back of the headstock like the made in usa stamp right down to the exact letter size and style but most if not all serial numbers start with a "U" and I think they are 1 number too long.

In my opinion F--- THEM THOSE AS----, FOR A COUPLE HUNDRED MORE ANYONE CAN GET THE REAL THING OR HECK GET A USED ONE FOR THAT PRICE.It's just like would you rather stay home and pout and beat-off, or just go out and find somebody and get layed. Noth-in sounds as good or feels as good as the real thing, and any-ways what was your name, oh, papa who the hell do you think your kid-in you have a lot of nerve coming to a USA gibson site try-in to sell some half *** gibson copies, don't you know it's against the law here.

Were not stupid here mr. papa, we know bullshit when we see it. Move along, push that **** some where else

Alrighty, I'm guessing you're kinda stupid, so I'll put this in language you'll understand.

Me thinky these be fakey string stick. Person try sell me fakey string-stick. Me no want fakey. Me ask other string stick players if they think fakey too. We agree, is fakey. Me no buy fakey from person. Cuadamax no understand that me not selling fakey, was thinking of buying fakey.

That work-in for you, or do I need to add more hyphens where they're not required?

Chill out guys, I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

We're all here to share a mutual love...of the greatest guitars in the world. Let's show some of it.

Ooh Papa that's cold!

I agree with the others - if it looks like it & smells like it, it probably is. If you were into some kinda novelty laugh for your wall, fine, but I wouldn't spend the cash if I was you. You tend to see them in ads like this in ebay:

"Thank you for visit our esteemed store. We offer Genuine Gibson Custom guitar of highly quality......etc.etc.etc." Usually there's no reserve, a 2 buck starting bid, and a buy it now of 250. A friend of mine decided to bid on a PRS fake out of sheer fun & curiosity, and it turned out to be a way to try (didn't work on him) and get the money for no guitar in return. Rather keep hunting.

So how is the League of Gentlemen these days?

The burst on the second pic is so lame... and gold hardware? wtf!!!!!????

I'm gonna be with cudamax2343 here... i always find is suspicious when a new member / 1st time posting has this kind of stuff to show...

I feel the same way when someone post his first thread consisting on "can anyone help me with this serial?" c'mon guys... you know the odds of him just asking to see if the number will work for new fakes. They are catching up... some already have 2screwTRCs and correct pickup rings and bridge... so why not ask around in the gibson forums about SNs? and why not post some pics of fakes to see if they could pass as real?

Hey 'Cuda' date=' I stand to be corrected but if I'm right, you'll find out who Papa Lazarou is if you watch the League of Gentlemen ( very surreal British comedy).

Am I right Papa? Is that where it comes from, Dave?

11, you're my wife now.

I find it inherently difficult choosing a screen-name. Dr. Gonzo is invariably taken, few people know who Sal Paradise is, and calling myself Euchrid Eucrow raises all sorts of redneck-related questions, none of which I'm equipped to answer.

The guitars in question were actually offered to me by a friend who works for a boutique amp company here in Melbourne. Apparently they're moving factories and are moving in next to a guy who deals in "Unique and Custom Guitars". Apparently their uniqueness lies in that that they're miraculously capable of being churned out of a factory in China at a rate of 90 a month.

The guy was asking $1,870 for it, which is cheap, but not so ridiculous that it instantly raised a flag. The photos above are the ones the seller (a frenchman, I'm told) emailed my friend upon request. From the look of them my suspicion lightbulb starting blinking so I came here.

As for Thunder, have I asked for a serial yet? Kindly reserve judgement until I actually act like a tool, thanks. (moderately intentional pun given we're discussing silverbursts) Even if I did, it's a relatively simple solution of, oh I don't know, not giving me one?

Anyway, to those that confirmed my suspicions, cheers. I just wanted a second opinion and I've got it.

How about a balance between the two perspectives? You've both got very valid arguments, so how about giving the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise?

I wasnt reffering to you asking for serials... just pointed there are lots of folks asking this kind of stuff on their first post nowadays... maybe if they started by introducing themselves, and then posted something else and checked some other posts where we have posted how to check a SN and tips for spotting fakes... but signing up and immediately asking "is this guitar fake?" is always suspicious to me.

So, it should be clear i wasnt reffering to you in the second part of my post...

Anyway its a shame this china pauls are out there...

Not to get too far off topic...

Does anyone remember the Plasmatics?...Wendy O Williams?

On stage they used to cut a ( fake ) Les Paul in half with a chainsaw.

At one concert the signals got crossed and the roadies set up a REAL Les Paul to

be cut up...

I remember the guitar player was crushed when he found out what had been sacrificed.

The roadie?

I dont think hes been heard from since.

I disagree!

By examing those photos closely I believe them both to be real. The color and shape seem proper, as do the pots. Though the soil does appear to be rather dry.

On the other hand, the guitars without are doubt fake...........................

Though I am somewhat confused as to why people are getting upset, isn't this just another good faith inquiry? Sorry Papa it seems some of us are not being the best of hosts today. It isn't always like this.

Yes, I have some real solid advice for you: When in any doubt whatsoever - walk away. Go to an authorized dealer, pay a fair price and enjoy the comfort in knowing you bought the real deal and have the dealer and Gibson behind your purchase.
