TommyK
Eh? had a good time with family in Ark. However, I lost my dog. She was 15 pounds and 15 years old, about half blind and the other half deaf. She didn't get around as well as she used to. A year or two ago we went on a trip when she got to feeling poorly. She seemed to be in some sort of pain that only children's aspirin would help. After a week she got over it. The vet couldn't find anything wrong. Lately, she hasn't been real active. My FIL lives in a rural area and we'd let her out to do 'her business' a couple times a day. As his property is mosly fenced in and it was cold, we let her out without a leash, as she didn't venture far. On New Years' Eve night we let her out, like normal, then when she didn't come back after 10 minutes, we went out looking for her. We looked form 6 p.m. until midnight. Every nook and cranny, shed and shrub.... nothing. It got down to 30°F, too cold for a Chihuahua mix to survive alone. Next morning we looked from sun-up until after noon. We searched the road ditches a couple miles every direction... nothing. The next night it got down to 25°F. There is no way she survived that. On Saturday night we headed home.... without her. In my heart I know she is gone to her great reward. Dogs will wander off to die. I think it is because they don't want to draw preadators to the 'pack'... I guess. The first few days were miserable. I am slowly getting over it. Last night I rolled over and bumped a clump of blanket next to my feet where she used to sleep. I thought it was her, but then I woke up. Gilliangirl
Awww, I'm so sorry. Yes I've heard that animals will go off to die. I've had cats do that. And it's awful to dream about them, only to wake up and realize it was just a dream. At the risk of sounding like some weird voodoo woman, look and listen for *signs* over the next little while that she's still with you in spirit. I know it sounds wacky, but I could tell you some truly amazing stories about pets that have passed away and how they make their presence known after the fact. Have you got other pets? They might start acting unusual too. And if you don't, consider adopting another. It won't replace the one you lost but it helps you re-invest energy into a new life. It will occupy some emotion and you'll find yourself feeling better. And don't feel guilty if you do decide to get another one, because it doesn't mean that you loved the little one any less. DanvillRob
I'm so sorry... my old guy is 14-1/2 and I live in fear that each day I'll wake up to find him gone. I hope you'll get another dog. A puppy has a way to help get over your grief.

Johnt
Welcome back Tommy Sad to hear about your dog, been there myself and it doesn't feel great. We lost a 3 year old Irish Wolfhound last year and are now watching our 12 year old lurcher who thankfully still thinks he's a pup! All best mate. TommyK
Thanks for the condolences. I firmly believe good dogs do go to heaven. They have so much love to give and are such a joy to be around, heaven wouldn't be heaven without dogs. She was our one and only. I doubt we will get another pet any time soon. My wife and I have each other and grandkids to spoil. Someday, though, I may get another dog. But 'replace' her? never.
