jimmiJAMM
Have you checked the selector switch wiring? They can sometimes become loose and cause problems.

Blackie
How high or low is the pickup ? Raise it up to about 3/16 from the strings.

NeoConMan
I'm still thinking selector switch or maybe a bad pot. Â 500 will sound hotter than hell and a bit thin when cranked, especially in an SG. "Sizzling" is the word I'm looking for.
Yew
Ive only played a 500t in a Les paul R60, and I think I liked it, lots of sustain but I cant really comment on the tone as it was through a Line6 Spider, and all pickups sound the same through one of those.... *sgstandard*
With both E strings fretted at the last fret, make sure that BOTH pickups are roughly the same distance from the strings. The bridge pickup should always sound brighter, not muffled.
stickman
I know this sounds silly but is the tone turned up on the pickup?
