KL
I prefer Les Pauls without the pickguard on. I have a 1970's goldtop deluxe that I have removed (but kept safely) the pickguard from. Of course this means I have two visible screw holes plus a ding on the top of my guitar where the serew that holds the pickguard to the bracket was rubbing on the top for years. I still prefer it without the pickguard on. On my recent Les Paul standard (Gecko . . . and yes I love my Gecko . . . it's NOT ugly!!!) I never installed the pickguard and I am happy with it that way. I was wondering if Les Pauls always came with the pickguard separate or whether they were installed at the factory. I think some dealers install them before they display them now, but it seems a shame for those of us who prefer them without the pickguard. BigKahune
You could try this trick some use - get a couple extra pickguard screws. Paint the heads to match your body, then screw them into the holes. They'll be less visable than the holes.
dem00n
Why not get the screwless pickguard?
NeoConMan
Just put the screws in the holes. 90% of the people out there will never notice. The Les Paul guys who do will know why you did it.
KL
Never thought of putting the screws in the holes . . . good idea! Also I've never seen a screwless pickguard for a LP. Although I still would keep mine without pickguards, I'd be interested to see how that works if anyone has any pics. Thanks.

KL
Thanks CW . . . I really like the idea behind those screwless pickguards . . . very clever, if I ever decide I want to use a pickguard that is the way I will go.
motorcitychick
I like the pick guard on the guitar. If it comes without one on, I leave it that way. I don't alter my guitars when they come from the factory.
