Serial Number Question

Atta-boy Are Nine!

Yeah, varies widely depending on the guitar.

Regular stuff since 2006 has nine digits.

It is not a hard and fast rule at all.

Lotsa variations, exclusions, and plain old weirdness.

Puki, what is the guitar you're dealing with?

If you're worried about counterfeiting, that's the one thing they seem to get right.

The serial number will often appear normal at first glance.

Thanks everyone [cool]

edit:

i just noticed that classics have 4 to 6 digits.. i am more than REALLY sure my guitar is all original since it was bought at a guitar center, miami, FL and the headstock and the quality and everything :) but now i see that it says

Les Paul Classics with no "made in USA" but mine has.. but anyway thats not an issue for me :) n

i wish gibson would simplify the serial number process, why not have printed on the neck somthing like...MADE IN USA ON TUESDAY THE 21ST OF MARCH 2009 STRUNG AND TESTED BY ROBERT AT 10.30 AM THEN PACKED BY MARK READY FOR SHIPPING AT 1PM...ENJOY YOUR INSTRUMENT. now wouldn't that be so much easier for us? [blink]

They might have to put a larger head stock or at least bigger wings

A classic with a X XXXX would be prior to 2000.

A XXXXXX would be post 2000.

What if mine IS a 2000?

[thumbup]

Six digits' date=' beginning with 0.

I asked Gibson if it was a 2000 or 2001, since it was built right at the end of the year.

They said it was a 2001.

But what about the 0 at the front of the serial number?

Well....

guitar center' date=' miami, FL doesn't sell fakes right? [/quote']

Not that I'm aware of, but I wouldn't put it past the bastards...
