ledzep59
You could have a third pickup, and there are infinite options for what you could get- single coil, humbucker, piezo, etc. The best pickups are easy to find. I can't believe you still haven't found them.
Eracer_Team
depends if you wish to drill and router a new hole in the middle of your guitar.
BigKahune
You should go to a shop that has a guitar with a 3 pup setup, of any kind, and play it. Some people find the 3rd or "middle" pup is too bothersome to their strumming and picking. They say: "It gets in the way." I have a couple guitars with 3 pup setups and it doesn't bother me, but you should definitely check it out first before you route your LP.

Puki
as i can see by your name (def leppard) you want to have your guitar like steve clark's les paul custom. i will give you some ideas of pickups you can drop to sound like him: on his black les paul custom, he used a dirty fingers bridge position on his deluxe, he used seymour duncan 59's and on his other les pauls he used original gibson '59 PAFs. i would suggest: neck (seymour duncan '59) middle/centre (seymour duncan '59) bridge (gibson dirty fingers)

NeoConMan
That is why I don't like Fender Stats' date=' among other things...[/quote']Middle pickup NEVER gets in my way on a Fender. Plenty of room between them. On a Les Paul, it's a pain in the ***. That being said, I have my eye on a couple Les Pauls with 3 pickups. Probably buy a skinny pickup ring for the middle one and drop it down inside.
Lowdown
the sweetest sound comes from my les paul ( 76 Custom with 3 original pup) with the bridge and middle together. nothing I have found sounds like it!!! You're a lucky man. I'd love ta own a 3 pup Lp. Why...good question - they just look so damn cool. Kinda like a Big Ol' Thunderbird or Chevy Impala. And besides Ace Frehley played one' date='so that's just fine for me.Sold. That is why I don't like Fender Stats, among other things... Understand where you're comin' from mate. But... never let that be a detterent. Strat's are a different beast but worth taming.B) Have heard that disagreement all my 30 playing years and have seen(myself including)everyone fall by the wayside.B) I can bet on it that you will too:-$ .
