Turton
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a gibson I fell in love with as a boy, It was like a cross between a thunderbird and a les paul, with a standard les paul head. the advert in the magazine said "even if you could play it you probably could'nt afford it" well now thirty years on I can afford it ( but my playing is'nt much better) does anyone know this guitar, or could point me in the right direction cheers
Morten M
Sounds like an RD model to me.
Ian Martin
Yeah, what Morten said. The originals are a bit costly (try eBay). Last year however they produced it again as part of the Guitar of the Week series in a beautiful Silverburst finish. Only 400ish exist. Check 'em out here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-RD-Standard-ReIssue-Electric-Guitar?sku=515665 If you buy it, I'll envy you. Honest. harmonicchaos
they also have them at sweetwater click here pretty good price and they're mint. i got to play one there and the one i played was quite heavy (but it could've just been that particular one). i really love how they look (especially in silverburst). it sounded good too. it's cool that you can finally afford your dream guitar. good luck! cudamax2343
Thanks again guyscudaplay' date=' whats it like to play, how heavy is it ?[/quote'] Well I dont think Its heavy, dont have a good scale for guitars. Is right around the weight of an new paul, If I had to guess. I really don't play that one alot, have several(you are welcome to view an old photo album here,http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb227/cudamax2343/ their is some photos that need to be deleted. Anyways this RD silverburst's neck I really love and the sound well I hate to say is missing that les paul midrange punch, I think due to the 25 1/2" scale and the dirtyfingers, but sounds real nice thru a 6-10 cab and mainly used for lead/solo's, it's a real brite one. I'm still getting used to the sound of it, it is different than most and unlike the originals did not come with any boost. I have been tossing around the possibility of installing a 20db boost or pre-amp, or emg's, but not sure I think I really just don't like those dirtyfingers. LPDEN
I think the RD is a cool departure from the norm. And the fact that Gibson is reaching back into it's history with programs like Guitar of the Week and Guitar of the Month.
