GibSinCity
Does anyone else think the clear plastic pickups that show the copper windings currently offered on the Zoot Suit SG's would look pretty cool on other Gibsons, especially dark colored ones? Dub-T-123
I think they look kinda cool but I hate the 496r & 500t. Sh¡tty sounding pickups IMO. I prefer lower output alnico pickups. I also like créme alot. By the way, didn't they come like that on the Goddess series? Those were pretty cool.
yoda
I think they look cool in the right application.
Dunwich
Aren't they the same pickups used in the "Menace" series of guitars? Off topic, but on the issue of the Zoot suits, If I want to play a guitar made of plywood, I'll play a Danelectro.

Also... I thought the same thing unitl I actually tried one. They don't feel cheap and flimsy, they are very heavy, and they definitely have a distinct tone to them, probably, I'm sure, in part because of the Birch construction. The distinct tone may not be everyones cup of tea, and in the looks department, well to each his/her own. The black/red & black/natural combos actually aren't too ugly compared to the other colors. It might be interesting to see what musicians might do as far as aftermarket pickups in a Birch SG, and what it might sound like. A new SG platform, along with the Raw Power models to try pickups on.
