asddd3333
Ok, Black Gibson Studio with Trapezoid inlays. No binding in either the neck or body. Gold hardware. Serial #925277401 Guitar dater project says its a 1997 from the Nashville Plant. Gibson's website says 9 digit serials are only used after 2005, but the description then says: YDDDYBRRR (B= Batch#) This would place it as a '97 but Kalamazoo Plant... I'm confused... can anyone, please, lend me a hand on this one? Thanks in advance!
Laaz
Gibson's website says 9 digit serials are only used after 2005 That is true and I have not seen any prior to 2005 with 9 digit serials, however there could be exception. Best bet it to get some decent photos & email them to Gibson along with the serial #. They should be able to give you a definitive answer.
asddd3333
Thanks Laaz. I got it today, dirt cheap. I will try and post pics when I can.
rockstar232007
I posted a thread about why it's a BAD idea to use the "Guitar Dater", it got "Stickied", then dissapeared? DO NOT use the guitar dater to refference serial #s! For reason too numerous to mention.
Shade
Gibson's website says 9 digit serials are only used after 2005, but the description then says: YDDDYBRRR (B= Batch#) This would place it as a '97 but Kalamazoo Plant... I thought the Kalamazoo plant was closed around 1984? Why do you think the batch-number has anything to do with the plant? Other than that... write Gibson and send them pictures. That`s probably the best way to get the information you need...
Thundergod
Do you have pics? I think Studios had different inlays around that time... I might be wrong tho.
asddd3333
Well, I finally got around to take some pics. It's in pretty bad condition, but has a lot of mojo. The serial number ended up not being a 9 digit. Its a "regular" 8 digit number which places it being a September 1997 guitar. Duh! Here she is:
56LP Special
Shade is correct. The Kalamazoo plant closed around '84 so, the last three digits being under 500 on later guitars no longer meant Kalamazoo, Michigan plant.
