fake or not?

im no expert' date=' n the people i know who are, say that it is genuine n it is are-issue but cant determine the year, ive got to take it to another specialist, who only does valuations. the only thing i havnt checked or let anybody do, is take the pickups out and check the numbers. hey wen you only pay a tiny tiny bit out, n get the tonal qualities of this piece of kit, fake or not i dont care!!! when played side by side with an sg aquired in 74( you will notice i said aquired) there is no difference when played through marshall 100w amp combos!!!! so if it is a fake its a dddammmmmnnnnnnnn good 1[biggrin']

No need to take it anywhere to be valued.......we told you what it is not....a Gibson.

Glad it plays well.....but to have the name Gibson on it is an Insult to people who know the difference and

appreciate the quality of an actual Gibson instrument.

Hi raveyd. 1st up, I'm no expert so take or leave what I say, but you did ask in your opening post for the guys here to go out of their way and advise you if this was a genuine re-issue and if so what year it is. I think it's pretty clear everyone has tried to help you and have said it's a fake, that doesn't make it true of course, especially as you have had experts say it's genuine. In my amateurish way I've goodled "SG 61 reissue" and can't find any reissue that resembles it, and it does look remarkably like the Vintage copy.

The points made about the headstock, tone switch, washer, shape of the head, are all great for others to spot fakes in the future. But I've yet to find a single picture that has Les Paul written on the headstock, has a tone switch like yours and the shape of the horns don't look as crisply carved as on the Gibson to me. Can you say what the experts response to these points were when you pointed them out and why they still thought it was a Gibson?

I don't quite get the Bif Elf reference (good band), if they are using Vintage copies, how does that help, or did they say they were genuine reissues?

Just a quick trawl of some piccies...

Here's an SG 61 on ebay with some close ups.. Look at the quality.

thanks for that, but you miss understood my last comment, bigelf and priestess both used gibson sg's, when i said vintage i meant old lol!!!!! bigelfs is a 61 n priestess's bout a 71, sorry if i confused everybody !!!!!

what i said about the switches etc was that the ones on the originals do, yes i did say DO match my copy exactly!!!!

i stood ten feet away from the above bands and studied ther equip closely( as did my mate) the 61 had les paul on the truss rod cover! mine has a sticker off the new gison les paul tops!!!

somebody out ther either nicked em from one of the factories or ther suppliers, or theve got a good fake maker!!! i think its the later myself!!!

I think the confusion is coming from some reading your openeing post where you asked if it was a 61 fake or not, and your later post (post #21) where you accepted it wasn't a 61 original and changed your question to what year was this reissue, a 1988, 2002 or 2005?

Unless I've misunderstood what people are saying, I think they are saying it's not a genuine reissue either, even if it has used some pots from original.

it still makes me laugh the amount of people here who are still not reading the post properly!!!!!!!!!

i will say again MINE IS A FAKE!!

if you read this post properly you will see that i didnt mention the STICKER! i said that the NEW LES PAUL MODELS ALL HAVE THE SAME DECAL!!!! THE SAME AS ON MY FAKE!!!!!!!!

now ive said here twice MINE IS A FAKE!!!!!

what im saying is that someone has got these decals either out of the factory itself or are making them for themselves!!!!!

as for where im looking at these models, well try dawsons music, ive been going to there SHOP IN NSTOCKPORT GRT MANCHESTER ENGLAND!!!! AND NO THEY DONT HAVE THE STICKER ON THE BACK OF THE HEADSTOCK!!!!!

as i have said before somebody is trying to scam people with these fakes, and as for a piece of junk well you are a full on tool!! sat i played next to my mate with his genuine sg and neither me my mate or our other mate(all guitarists of 25yrs or more) could tell the difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he paid£950 back in 1981 for his, i paid£60 for mine!!

and by the way i can buy a new SG Special for £900 les paul gold top£1200

what i would really like is an SG bass!!

oh as for what im using at the moment 1977gould (worth as much as14000) ibanez GIO 7string, MY FAKE LOL!!!! YAMAHA RG121, peavey international (bass) n a charvel (bass) and they are run through a marshal 100wt combi amp/cab (guitars) am playin bass through a yamaha practice bass amp ( im still trying to get the money together for my dream bass combo)

I love how you keep coming back to this point.

I've met more that enough players (decent ones) who have been playing since before I was born.

They couldn't tell a turd from a diamond if you put one in each hand.

Just because you and your friend can't appreciate how good the real Gibson is' date=' or how bad your fake is doesn't mean your "guitar" is any good. All it means is that you're both clueless.

Now you're excused. [img']http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/whatever.gif[/img]

so all you big boys, as i brought the guitar second hand, i was un-sure of its authenticity, i had done quite a bit of digging through gibson history etc, hence my comments about headstock shape decal etc, i was hoping for a little help, all ive got from people on here is mild abuse, is that what this forum is for?????

after everything iv written people still, yes still think they have the right to do that, well let me inform you its not big and its not clever!!!!!!

as for your comments about myself and my friends, well, you wouldnt be saying those things face to face!!!!

those people, and you know who you are, seem to have your headstocks rammed up so far that you open ur mouths to tune up, LOL!!!!!!

I DONT CARE if you think my guitar is rubbish, i actually think you are jealous

until youve heard it for yourself how do you know!!!!!!!

my friends and i, can appreciate how good REAL Gibson is, two of my guitar buds own Gibsons, originals with original sales reciepts etc, its there input that made me come on here in the first place because they couldnt decide whether it was a clever fake or not!!!!!!

this one is for guitar junkie-check ur hands mate ITS THE BROWN ONE YOU CANT GIVE A WOMAN FOR A PRESENT!!!!!!
