Blues1 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I wanted to know if any one else does the wrap around string technique to add more tension on the strings? I know Joe Bonamassa does this & getting a chance to hear his new album "Black Rock" it sounds like some gritty deep guitar Sound. . I'm sure this technique sounds different on the various les paul models Ride the vibes
80LPC Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 String tension depends on scale length and string gauge. Some players say the strings feel more 'bendy' with top wrapping, which may be due to the strings being more inclined to move slightly through the saddles during bending. This is more likely to take place when the break angle at the saddle is reduced. Top wrapping reduces the downforce on the bridge which means it is not coupled to the body as firmly as a conventionally strung bridge.
