Joan Jett Melody Maker First Batch 07

I bought one of the original 400 from the first batch of the mysterious GOTW which was supposed to be a limited edition run of 400. Then Joan cut some deal with Gibson to mass produce more and heavily market them, which they did and there goes the value in what was originally supposed to be a limited run. Mine came with a Sinner CD, and a black heart adhesive sticker.

Let me tell you this guitar is worth every penny of the $639.00 I paid before they raised the price up a bit. I don't like the roughed up satin white finish but, the guitar plays great. I removed the burst bucker 3 alnico pup (never cared for alnico) and replaced it with a Gibson 500T, WOW................ what a difference, great sustain and the 60's style slim neck is fantastic. I really think this is also an under=rated guitar seeing as the regular melody makers (single cut) are so so. I also enjoy the kill switch as well, great idea if you sing lead and play guitar (assuming that's why she had it designed that way on her 78.) Any way................ I love the little guitar and it really kicks out some great tones with the mahogany body. I think the fact that it's a double cut will eventually make it a classic. I would like to see Gibson release a limited run of double cuts with the one pup but with a nice laquer finish or burst of some sort. I also heard but not confirmed that the first 400 that were supposed to be a limited run were made in the custom shop.

Maybe................ I don't agree with the 2 pup assessment though respectfully. Pat Travers best MM was a single pup and he could play that MM like a demon. In those light guitars, one double coil humbucker is all you need if you know how to work the guitar. It's like a junior, simple but full of tone if you know how to make them growllllllll. Leslie West always preferred 1 pup, even with his custom Dean model I believe. It's all in the ears and fingers.

No, not lucky enuff to have had the chance although I saw Les play his with the trapeze bridge, I bet that baby weighed 11lbs if more. Those guitars are the gold standard for les pauls IMO. You gotta love the 2 P-90, if you're a P-90 fan. My 75 deluxe is a shoulder killer but she hums like a bee. It has the dark back.................

I love P-90's.

For some reason they sound better to me on some gain then clean.

Though to much gain and it sounds bad.

Also you should buy one of those heavy padded guitar straps...they go for like 20 bucks.

I just purchased a Joan Jett MM and the guitar is one of the best guitars I have ever played right out of the box ($669).... The hard shell case is pretty cool as well (snake skin texture and white lining). The only guitars that I've had that's played better out of the box, are my Epi Casino and Moser guitars.....[biggrin] ......

The ebony fret-board is to die for on this little guitar

BTW the case in the picture is something I just purchased from a guy locally $70... For my Gibby LPJ[biggrin]

Anywho the below image is probably the last image that we will see JJ in its bone stock state..... This sucker is seriously going under the knife[blink]

How cool is that!!!!!!!!!! what a killer guitar that will be. Nice job............. I see your the moderator? I just joined a short while ago. I'm a retired (although only 51) pro musician, not touring anymore. Yeah I love my little JJ MM..... I swapped out the burstbucker 3 for a Gibson 500T, I love ceramic magnets but that burstbucker is pretty good but a bit too noisy for me as I still record. I also like the ebony fret board but am partial to rosewood. I do hope Gibson comes out with a limited edition double cut melody maker in a laquer finish or burst color. I had mine customized by my luthier in terms of fret grooming and pup swap, and foiled the cavities for nosie reduction. The tone and volume switches are also wired for parallel. I'll tell ya though the 500T Gibson is a killer pup............ I usually go with Dimarzio because I've stood by those pups since they came out in the 70's. Het nice chatting with you and that little melody maker you have is going to be just splendid............. post pics when it's done. Tight strings...........
