This has to be a record price for a '71 SG Standard

In all of my years of looking at SG's this has to be the highest I have EVER seen for '71 SG Standard with the Lyre Vibrola Maestro... $4117.97 . Wow! Who says SG's aren't on fire?! Most of the auctions I have been watching have had higher price trends for SG's...

I'd buy this http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listID=104553711 and this http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listID=104666613 or this http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listID=104359384 or a JR at 3499.99http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listID=103248947 and thishttp://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listID=104702375 As long as their have been no repairs or breaks on-em. They always come way down on the prices that are at this site. Or s--- I think I'm just going to get this one and throw-it on e-bayhttp://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listID=104553711

I saw an ebay auction for an original '61 SG go for $30' date='000. I thought that was just too much, even though it was a '61 SG.[/quote']

I can see that money for that. That '61 is indeed an iconic guitar.

keep in mind that the auction started at $900

Usually you'll see sellers start at price points just below major intervals for at least 2 reasons.

1. Lower listing fees.

2. Gets more bids early on that creates a frenzy of sorts and then has interest to the final bid.

I got my 1971 SG Standard for $2600... That one is in better condition than mine but not by much. I had been looking for one for a long time. On Ebay you see what the maket price will bring. The SG Standards with lyre maestro tremolo that are on Ebay that are listedfor $16.000 or so tend to stay on Ebay and don't sell. You'll see the higher priced ones go back on sale right away with no bids. A couple of weeks back I saw a 67 sell for just under $3000. That was a bargain!! If you are looking for one watch check the listings every day. Times are tough now and some people have to part with a beloved guitar. So if you have some extra cash you can get yourself a great guitar that goes up from about 15 to 25% in value every year...

All excellent points, Dave. And you're is very nice looking. As the owner of one, you already know of the extra premium the lyre maestro tremolo brings over a standard SG of the same year.

And yes, there are alot of nice vintage a nd nn vintage Guitars alike here being sold off for econominc reasons, and there are bargains to be had. Even more so for those in Europe where the Euro is very strong versus the US Dollar right now.

I'm dont blame you one bit! As the old saying goes' date=' [i']"Strike while the Iron is Hot".[/i]

I remember those days of the strong USD. I bought alot form Canada and elsewhere. Now not so much, except stateside where we're all inthe same boat. But it's hard to compete sometime where there are international buyers. I suppose everyone gets their time in the soup.

That is EXPENSIVE the 68 Standard has been Appraised at 6000-7000

Remember what happened when people started looking at instruments for investment purposes? Well the trend has been back on again, and expect prices to swell again if the stock market isn't giving returns better than guitar investors leap-frogging off each other.

Makes custom shops models very attractive in my book.
