Gilliangirl Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 "If it Hadn't Been for Love".......The Steel Drivers "Flyin' Shoes"........Townes Van Zant I have given up completely playing with the pointy part of the pick. I use the shoulder of the pick as I like the sound better and it is much faster transitioning from individual notes to strummed chords. Does anybody else like it this way? Yes, that's how I hold my picks.... lengthwise. I got in that habit a long time ago and it seems to work for me now and I can't go back (I tried haha!) Love the Steel Drivers!
albertjohn Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I usually have a pretty good ear when it comes to working things out. But.............. I was playing a fund raising event on Saturday night. Robbie and I did the last song, he said "stay there" and went off into Make Me Smile by Steve Harley. A simple enough song, but I had not played it before. Got through the verses and choruses OK until the guitar break. "Do you know the chords for the solo?" he asked with the crowd looking on. "Errr......no" sheepishly. So we carried with the crowd having a jolly good sing-a-long Sunday night, youtube, sorted. No mystery - a very simple set of chords that any old fool, who has heard a song for about 60 million times, should have been able to work out on the hoof! Doh! Been playing around with: Oh Well Come Together Townes' Blues - (our very own) Jinder The bass parts to my daughter's school's production of The Jungle Book!
