rybass
I just picked up my Melody maker '59 sc reissue white and plan on modding it in a tasteful manner. I actiallu really like the single coil. I had originally planned on replacing it with a '57 bucker or a mini bucker but I think I'll leave it for now. I wanted to see what anyone slse has done to them or any ideas that be had. Post some pics, procedures taken and explanations. I'll put mine up as soon as I get started.
sricabla
I got a 2007 melody maker, and I put in a P-90 and it sounds great. Nice and dirty with a creamy aftertaste! Maybe the only thing it needs is a bridge with saddles so it has better intonation. Other than that, it sounds smokin' hot!
LPDEN
Congrats Rybass! Yep, Just like Sricabla I have one as well. Alot of guitar for a little amount of money. Easy to play and sounds big! A great combination. I call it my "Fun" guitar!
harmonicchaos
if the melody maker came in a double cutaway i'd really want one. they're really neat guitars for a very good price!
LPDEN
By the way, I bought one of those inexpensive $39.99 Musicians Friends LP Cases for it. That may not be necessary for most people but since we take our RV back and forth between NY and TN, I routinely bring the Melody maker along with a small amp so I have something (electric) to play while on the road. I just looked it up and I see they raised the price $10. It's now $49.99, but that still a decent price, it's a very good case for the money. By the way, the MM sits a little loose in the case due to the guitar's thin body. All I did was lay a clean cotten t-shirt in there and it fills up the gap nicely. It's always rewarding to actually find something useful and of decent quality without laying out a large sum of cash. And as you said, it's cheap insurance. LPDEN
Thanks TAC. If anyone ever asked me which guitar was the most guitar per dollar spent that I'd ever purchased, it'd be hard not to say or at least include my '07 Melody Maker. What's not to like? A brand new American Gibson modelled after the '59 Melody Maker for under $200, dripping with Mojo, and sounds and plays like a guitar nearly 10x it's buy price. Even the box it came in was cool! slimjimdom
They do look like fun guitars. I really liked the white when they first reappeared, but now i think im leaning more toward the sunburst. Wonder how it would look with a tortoise shell pickguard
Ian Martin
Wonder how it would look with a tortoise shell pickguard That's what I'm thinking too! The white or black one with a nice red/brownish tortoise shell. Tasty!

rybass
There is a guy on the bay who can cut a pickguard for these in tortoise for around $75 and give you the pickup config you want. All his stuff on the bay is the black material but he told me he can do whatever. A white mm with a tortoise guard would be the balls.

LPDEN
My prior commentary on the Melody Maker was (and still is) that it is among the best values in the Gibson line. There is little to no reason to not have one of these great fun electrics in your guitar collection.

If I said it once I've said a milllion times, it's the "fun" guitar![/quote'] It was posted yesterday at chrisguitars.com. I always check that site for cool stuff. When I saw this one, it was like an impulse buy. And another reason I went for the Melody Maker: a couple weeks back at the Dallas Guitar Show, I played a great 57 Les Paul Junior VOS in the Gibson Custom van. There was something about that simple plank of mahogany that just connected with me. I couldn't put that guitar down! So now with the MM, I can get back in the ballpark without shelling out for a box seat! Somebody changed the knobs? Works for me, I like the gold speed knobs better myself. Back in 1986, I bought one of the Les Paul Junior Reissues, and it had gold knobs. Guitar World magazine wrote a review and blasted Gibson for not using black ones. I wrote back to the mag and defended the gold knobs. GW printed my letter. Henry saw it, and sent me a big box of Gibson swag! It had a cap, a t-shirt, a huge case decal, strings...
