Lads...

Ive had some alone time with my Custom.

She is a different animal isnt she?...compared to a Standard.

The weight took a little getting used to, but its not a big deal. Its not a guitar I like to sit and play.

Its best played while standing. Again, I was spoiled by the Standard.

Much more aggresive tone then the Standard as well. I guess its the hotter pups coming into play.

Brilliant sustain. Nice and thick, just the way daddy likes it! lol

My rule of thumb is to fine tweak the tone till just before you get "Mud"..Thats my sweet spot.

I know, most of feel the same way.

When I found that sweet spot with the Custom it was pure Gibson bliss!

Im trying to find the words that separate it from the Standards sound...

The only word that comes to mind is thicker...

Maybe thats lame, but hey, im no Harvard grad!

I love them both equal. These guitars are lifers with me. My daughter inherits them when I take

that 6 foot dirt nap. ( She rolls her eyes when I tell her that )

Custom fellas?....any opinions?

I took my new Custom to rehearsal this weekend for the first time.

What a great guitar! Although she's heavier than my Standards, the weight wasn't an issue, even after 2 hours of playing.

The band loved her, and they all commented on how good she sounded. Even our producer, who was there to discuss some mixing issues, said it's a great sounding guitar.

So I guess the stock pickups stay:d/

The missus told me an Ebony one would look really good on the couch beside her...

Customs are my favorite LP's of all, hands down! When that ever recurring question comes around every so often asking "If you could only own one guitar, which would it be?", My answer every time would be: LP Custom without any hesitation.

I just got my dream '68 (announced in another thread and shown below), and now I am working on finding a LP Custom with a Bigsby. To make it even more unique than any other LP Custom I now own, I'm looking to make it a solid color - probably in either Black or White.

I've never been a huge fan of the look of the custom ' date='

But ....

Damnit ya got me thinkin ROAD TRIP . #-o [/quote']

I may have mentioned somewhere here before, but a Bigsby or some variation of a Diamond head in Black w/a Bigsby is so desirable to me. Chrome or Gold doesn't matter. Just bring me back to 1957 for that look, feel and sound! Which reminds me, I have to get back to the Amp threads..

Some day down the road when I'm ready to make another purchase, I think it will probably be a Custom. Man that balck one is a beauty. Uhh, a Black Beauty, so that's why they're called that!

Yeah, something about the Double bound white body binding and the withe headstock binding really sets off the deep Black lure wonderfully!

Les Paul himself regularly used two Customs, one black and one white.

He would play the white one when he wore a black tuxedo, the black one when he wore a white dinner jacket. Les was the original "guitar as fashion accessory" artist too. What DIDN'T he pioneer?

Yep, the man was the Thomas Edison of Guitars... Ever see pics of his home? It's an electronic 'wasteland' of history. And I use 'wasteland' in the positive sense of extreme amounts of historic value.... The best part is, he's still going...

I'm with you deepblue, I love my Custom too! I've probably had it my Custom a little longer than most of you guys have had yours. I bought it new in 1982 for $718.00 including the protector case. Great feel, great tone, what else can you ask for?

I never thought of the family tree aspect of the picture.

Wifey thinks my head is made of wood these days, so perhaps I should

have been in the shot.

*Note*

Im taking her to play Bingo tonight. I know how to play her! lol
