The pickups really sing thru my 50 watt plexi and custom Alien Alliance 4x12 Cab. I know that it was ordered/made ? sometime around christmas 1983.....any info would be greatly appreciated......Also just wanna show off my stuff, included is : my squier Tele I gutted and redid in mother pearl and white tele EMG's, pearl knobs and vintage fender tuners..... Strat that I built from parts laying around....includes EMG Strat P/u 's, vintage fender tuners and my Takamine G330...which believe it or not sounds as good if not better than some Martins and Taylors I've played (It's all in YOUR ears right?, lol) Enjoy! and please if you know much about 1980's Les Paul Custom Shops please reply!!! Serial #83463516 btw is there any significance of the dot in the "i" touching the G? Later, Levi Blackcrowes420 Flickr
Fixr1984
Picture? Sounds to me like you have an 83 Studio Custom. The "PAF" pickups are probably Tim Shaws. From what I had read and I could be wrong but in 83 Gibson was starting the Custom Shop and the Studio custom was the first guitar that they started making. Basically what you have is a Studio with Custom options. Neck binding, multi-ply body binding, Most likely gold hardware, dot inlays instead of traps. Edit......just saw the pictures, definatly a Studio Custom. Pretty sweet looking. Heres a pic of mine. They are both 1985. The bottom one has the wrong TRC and knobs but that has been corrected since the picture was taken.
blackcrowes420
Thanks for the info! What's the story with the "Tim Shaw" pups? All I know is they sound great....Someone told me there was some significance with the dot on the "i" touching the G on the headstock.....??? It feels very well made for being an early 80's gibson....I had to replace the saddles, the gold ones started to pit....so I replaced with String Savers... also the speed knobs that were on it did not "Fit" the guitar in my opinion so I put on the vintage bells.....I think it gives it a nicer look... Fixr1984
Thanks for the info! What's the story with the "Tim Shaw" pups? All I know is they sound great...... From what I had read Tim Shaw who was working for Gibson at the time was asked to design a pick up after the original PAF's. Long story short these pickups were refered to as "Tim Shaws" and were the first attempt at cloning the original PAF pickup. They were only made from about 1980? to 1986? Someone told me there was some significance with the dot on the "i" touching the G on the headstock.....??? ... Couldn't tell you' date=' probably just a slight change in the era of logos. also the speed knobs that were on it did not "Fit" the guitar in my opinion so I put on the vintage bells.....I think it gives it a nicer look... The previous owner of my burst put top hats on and I didnt like them so I picked up some Gibson speed knobs to keep it original, plus I like them better.
