TobiH
There's a very nice LP Classic Goldtop at the local guitar shop. Now US guitars are MUCH more expensive here than in the states and even quite a bit more than in Europe so I cannot judge by pricing where the Classic fits in with the LP family. Is it sth like the current Traditional - is it a down/up graded LP Std. ? Thx T

Xinnix
Is it sth like the current Traditional - is it a down/up graded LP Std. ? I think its in the same class as a Standard. Just different pickups and a 60's slim neck. How much is it being listed for?
sellen
Here in Norway the classic is prized to 18000 kroner Standard is 21000 kroner. 3000 kroner in difference that's about 400-500 $. If you want a metal axe the classic got high output humbuckers 496R 500T. Haven'T tried a classic but im sceptic to those pickup in a Les Paul
TobiH
I am in South Africa. Don't think that there is an official Gibson agent in the country so can't compare to new prices. It's second hand and asking price is around R23.000, which is more than a new LP Standard costs in Germany
NeoConMan
It should be priced in line with a Les Paul Standard of the same year, or slightly less. The ceramic pickups are too hot and shrill for many tastes, that's why I pulled them out of mine. For several years, the Classic was the only way to get a slim 60 neck on a Les Paul. That's why I bought mine ten years ago. Look at the trap inlays on the neck too. They are supposed to be tinted for a "vintage" look, on a few guitars they appear to be snot green. If you haven't already noticed, they probably aren't anything that would bother you. Great guitars, and great bargains in the used market.

pippy
They are high quality instruments. (When they were introduced into the Les Paul lineup in 1990 they were priced 40% more than a LP Standard). All-in-all they are great guitars.
TobiH
I haven't played or heard it yet. The guy at the shop said it was the nicest sounding LP they bad on the floor. Not sure if I will like it sounding hot though. I rather favour the mellow LP sound that Knopfler gets out of his '

NeoConMan
You can always change the pickups. Don't pass the guitar up based on that single point. If it plays good, feels good, and has no flaws, then go ahead and get it. Put a set of 57 Classics in it and sell the ceramics on Ebay. I put my old ceramics in a kids Epi Les Paul, and he LOVED IT! Puki
They look great! Here's mine: EDIT* About the hotness of the humbuckers, they can always be changed. I changed mine to get more of a vintage tone. :-
NeoConMan
Charlie Brown, yours seems to exhibit the "Snot Green Inlay" Syndrome. I know digital pics can really screw up colors, is it really that obvious in person? Here's my Classic, unfortunately it was the victim of a vandal a few months ago... Here's my Classic, unfortunately it was the victim of a vandal a few months ago... Yep...guilty as charged! It really doesn't bother me, that much...and, depending on light, and/or even angle, it changes color density...to varying degrees. So...maybe someday, when it needs new frets, I'll have real pearl inlays put in, as well? Until then...no biggie. ;>) CB

TobiH
those look great. I would prefer a burst to a goldtop. the guitar is also unbelievably heavy. I just started playing and plucking on an acoustic at the moment which feels lime a stamp in comparison but even a strat feels like origami in comparison.I must get the model number and find out more details about this guitar
NeoConMan
So you got a chance to play it and look it over? Is it in good shape? No signs of damage or repairs around the back of the headstock or the neck joint? Then BUY it! what happened to your les paul Joe Perry of Aerosmith signed it. Got Ted Nugent to sign my Goldtop as well. I like 'em!
