Why is it so hard to find a LP with a blue finish?

Recommended Posts

I saw a Blue Epiphone LP in the store the other day, and I was amazed by the beauty. So, I traveled around the local shops and larger guitar shops to find a new Gibson Les Paul, but could find none. I looked around through all my connections to see if anyone had a blue Les Paul that they would sell, but could find none. Where can I find one? I was thinking about getting one through the custom shop, but found out that you need to place an order for 25 guitars in order to get what you want. I don't want 25 guitars, I want one.

I will tell you, blue and green seem to be the hardest common color to find.

I looked high and low to find one.

Custom shop models can come in blue i've seen. But other than that, i don't think they make a blue les paul in mass.

Good luck in your search.

One place i'd check is CL.

A green LP studio came up for 500 bucks, and i snatched it up.

The new Ace Frehley Les Paul has a nice transparent blue finish. Of course, the headstock is ruined

with Ace's "Anomaly" cd picture. Thats the deal breaker for me right there.

Les Paul Standard LE Series had some nice colors.

Came out in 2004, only built them for a year - maybe two.

White binding, rings and pickguard instead of the usual aged stuff.

Ebony fingerboard, slim '60s neck, BurstBucker Pro pickups.

Manhattan Midnight may be what you're looking for.

Pacific Reef Blue is a bit greenish.

Sante Fe Sunrise was the one I liked - brilliant orange over flame Maple.

Almost bought one because it was so damned beautiful.

Not many people ever even heard of them, but if you watch the used market one should show up.

MSRP was $3,299 so the street price was likely 2,200 - 2,400 bucks.

After a few years out there, the price might be right too...

Good luck!

Keep an eye out for a Studio Lite. I wanted a blue one and flipped out when I finally found it. It has an ebony fretboard and has a hollowed mahogany body (with a chromite block inside for weight relief) maple cap. 500T and 496R pups. Slim 60's neck. Black hardware. Made in the early 90's.

They really are nice Les Pauls. Someone I know is selling a mint Santa Fe, and I am sorely tempted, but I really want the Pacific Reef one which is kind of greenish blue and the back of the guitar is finished in blue. I've found one but it's a lot more money than the Santa Fe. So I will let you know what I decide.

They turn up from time to time, and it would be nice to see blue (as well as green and pelham blue) LPs offered more frequently. Here are a few that have turned up in the last few years: :(

Thanks, Neo. I ordered it from a dealer without the benefit of pictures, so I was very surprised when I saw the flame on mine upon its arrival.

I think I would like the Pacific Reef also, but I have never seen one in person. As much as I love blue LPs, the Midnight Manhatten is a little too dark for my taste (love the blue, but dislike how dark it looks unless a bright light source is hitting it).
