Taylor_Nut
I have played acoustic guitar for around 28 years now and bought my first electric at age 44. I am now close to 49 and play almost everyday. I trade *.mp3s on a few forums and found this a good outlet for what has become a real passion...Keep at it !!!!
phil47uk
So many interesting posts to read. I really enjoy this forum. Tips of my fingers are hurting like a beginner. I had to lay off the guitar yesterday. Did some yardwork instead. Although' date=' I put on the headphones last night, and play for 20 minutes. I really enjoy, hitting the low E, then play off the chromatic E and doing some fun licks. I like that low E sound in the background. Does that make sense?[/quote] It's called a pedal or drone whichever way one wants to look at it. You can do some really interesting stuff with that type of thing
Explorer
One word to getting better. Patience. If you want to become a good lead player invest in a metronome and learn the theory. Even if you can't play at ridiculous speeds, you can at least pick the right notes to make it sound good. Start with major and minor. Then work in the major and minor pentatonics and you might as well as learn the blues scale which is basically a pentatonic with some added notes here and there. Finally learn the modes. And when I mean learn, I mean you should know it all over the fretboard. In my lessons we practice a different position each week which helps to learn the scale over the entire fretboard. First week: Learn scale in home position 2nd week: Learn scale one position back 3rd week: Learn scale one position up 4th week: Learn scale in 5th string position Thats all you need. And when you learn these, practice them exclusively so you can evolve licks out of them. O and the metronome is in order to play in time, sure you can be a GC shredder but if you can't play in time you are worthless. Any questions, feel free to send me a PM. P90Pete
Guitar Techniques magazine published a good practice guide in the April issue. Definitely worth downloading. For new solo players the section on Phrasing With Chord Tones is important to learn. Play these exercises in different positions and, as stated a hundred times above, use a metronome. Explorer
Hey Guys. At the request of a forum member, I set up a blog to teach people. Its my first time using a blog as teaching tool, so comments on my teaching style would be greatly appreciated. I have taught for years face to face, so this is a new venture for me. I will be adding content as I go so bear with me if there is only 2 lessons on there currently. Check it out. jaminsight.blogspot.com Anyone can comment or leave suggestions. Kingedb
Hi Jakatak! I am a 32 year old and I too want to learn badly. So i started taking lessons immediately after i bought my first acoustic (exactly 6 weeks ago this friday). I also bought a few books and hit the net. My teacher in my opinion is too expensive so i decided to take a shot and buy "learn and master guitar" by Steve Krenz. i love it! i do not think i am going back to lessons unless i feel i need a boost. By the way i am in no way affiliated with Steve or his product. I am just a happy customer. I recommend you give it a look. The 1st "workshop" has helped my dexterity a great deal. It's all about the boring repetative foundation in my opinion. Obviously i am talking about my infantile stage here. Sure it is fun to PLAY songs and that is the goal, but i am all for "work now and play later". I think it's the best approach. Either way good luck and as many have said "being obsessed" is a great start! PS i am a rookie and my tune may change as i grow. no pun intended!
