deepblue Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Is there any sure fire way to tell chrome from nickel? I received my '67 Green pickups today. It says nickel covers, but they look too darn shiny IMO to be nickel.
jimmiJAMM Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Good question. Some '67 SG's came with a nickel ABR-1 bridge but mine looks like chrome to me.

L5Larry Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 As for visually ID'ing them, one gives off a blue hue, and the other a yellow hue. The problem is I don't remember which is which, blame it on the 70's. I believe (from just checking the bumper of my 1973 Trans Am) that chrome is blueish, and nickel is yellowish.
Thundergod Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Nothing to do with shine. Chrome and nickel is like comparing gold and bronze IMO. Different colours, chrome having more of a blue-ish (and nickel having more of a yellowish) thing to it.
TommyK Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Lick it. Some say nickel has a 'nickel' taste to it. I don't know what that means, but if you lick a known nickel item (old 1960's or older nickel) that ought to give you a flavor for it. Not advisable to do this in an antique shop. Nickel will tarnish with age, chrome won't.
