rossjames Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 howdy, i just got an old es-125 in a trade, and am looking for any information that i can find about it. the pickup has been replaced, and it is missing the pickguard, but other than that seems to all be original. i found this number on it...NS2464...FON number? any info would be very helpful. also, what would a ballpark price be for one of these beauties? this is the only pic i've got right now... http://i782.photobucket.com/albums/yy101/associatedsound/3k13mb3pb5Y45Z25P1a4l1053d5eb0b7513.jpg thanks, RJ
SamBooka Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Since no one else is bitting... Email gibson with the details (SN and they will give you the info you need) I have done it before and they usually get back to me in 2-3 business days. I cant find any reference to NS in the sn or fon. Assuming your guitar is in ok shape and from the 50s or 60s it is a 1000 - 1500 guitar. IF the top was cut for the HB you can expect less. Certainly if you are missing the original PU you will get less (that is part of the charm for one of these guitars) Good luck
Robin Nahum Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Original pickup would have been a P90. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_ES-125 http://www.archtop.com/ac_64ES_125.html Why somebody would replace it with a small bobbin single coil beats me. An archtop is all about mids and bottoms for which a large bobbin single coil or a bucker is a far better match - at least in my view. If you want to replace the pickup with something close to the original, and you think that a P90 might have too much hair, you might want to have a look at a Charlie Christian. http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&source=hp&q=charlie+christian+pickup+telecaster&meta=&aq=1&aqi=g4g-m4&aql=&oq=charlie+christian+pickup&gs_rfai=&fp=796d18729f3e2c6a Whichever way you go, you will probably also need to check that it has the right pots and caps. There are a bunch of people around who will cut you a pickguard. I have found Classic Ax in Nashville very good for hard-to-get spares. http://www.classicax.com/ RN
rossjames Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 thanks to Robin & Sam for the tips. i've got an e-mail into gibson regarding the FON number, and am looking for a P90 to throw in the guitar.
SamBooka Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 before you buy a p90 measure the existing route. It may be too big for a p90
