bandhro Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 update: just sold for € 1000 on ebay. maybe it is an original after all? or the bidders just wasted a lot of their money. :)
Mark Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Wasted their money, you can buy a copy/fake for $250.00. I do know one think thats a fake theres no maybe about it.
SamBooka Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 guess it didnt get reported in time.f Caveat emptor tra la la but when I see stuff like that I flag it.
bandhro Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 i told it ebay, but like you said, i guess it was too late.
artmaker Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 What a shame for whoever bought it....one of the worst fake jobs I have ever seen....
spitball Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I would think anyone ready to pay that much for a guitar would recognize that as a fake, or do some research and ask around like bandhro did.
lpdeluxe Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 That's the truth. The local music store owner showed me a "Gibson" someone picked up in a pawnshop and wanted to trade in on a Martin -- he paid $600 for it (a flat-top acoustic) and expected about a grand credit toward the one he wanted. It was a low-end MIC plywood beater, with a plastic applique that said "Gibson" slapped onto a decidedly non-Gibson headstock. It was such a POS that I was surprised to even find it at the store (the owner is very knowledgeable about guitars, and sold a couple of my more valuable pieces for quite a bit more than I paid for them, back in the day). It was what is called a "quarter-mile" fake: you could tell it was fake from a quarter mile away! The dealer eventually convinced the guy it wasn't a "real" J45, and generously allowed him $100 on the trade in. I don't know what happened to it next: I never saw it again.
