1953 Gibson LG-1 Case?

Hi. I recently purchased a 1953 LG-1 and it came in a black case. The case fits the guitar perfectly, and I was told it was the original case, but all the original LG-1 cases I have seen were the lighter crocodile pattern. Could a black case be original in 1953? Thanks a million for the help.
