jbright Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I am looking at purchasing a fairly new Gibson ES335 with a caramel sunburst finish on the resale market but I am suspicious of the serial number. It is 03356727. As I understand it, that would mean that it was built in 2005, which seems about right, but the 2nd, 3rd and 4th numbers confuse me. 335 would mean that it was built on the 335th day of the year...possible but kind of suspicious as this also happins to be the model number of the guitar. Also I cannot find any evidence of a caramel sunburst ES335 except perhaps the Larry Carelton model, but then the serial number makes no sense at all for a signature model? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your advise.

spitball Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I wouldn't necessarily be suspicious of the fact that the guitar was stamped on day 335. No reason why it couldn't be. You can also email Gibson and ask them to roll that number and give you what they have on it.
