alexbl Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Hello, what is the value of a Gibson 1979 SG in tobacco sunburst in good condition with all original parts? It has had a neck break repaired by a luthier. Thanks
jimmiJAMM Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Probably worth 2-3 hundred if it's in exc condition with original case.
alexbl Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 Does the fixed neck break really lower the price to as little as that? Here's some pics of it... http://i39.tinypic.com/2i0fcbp.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/hsorxk.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/20famvd.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2qdr7gy.jpg
jimmiJAMM Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Does the fixed neck break really lower the price to as little as that? Here's some pics of it... Yes. Fixed breaks substantially lower the value. Sorry
alexbl Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 Don't be sorry, I'm the buyer not the seller
alexbl Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 Hmm to be honest I did think the body looked a bit suspect, what do you see? Might stay away from this one.
alexbl Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 I know my SG bodies well thanks mate, if you don't want to post what you think is wrong on here then send it to me in a private message.
pohatu771 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 It's a late-70s SG - they aren't "perfect." One search for "1979 Gibson SG" returned a nearly-identical guitar, as well as several others that had the same features.
Blackie Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Looks real to me.........have not checked it though with others for bridge, tail piece, neck and toggle position.
KL Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I thought it looked real (but I'm not an expert on SG's), actually it's a nice looking guitar. A real shame about the neck break.
BigKahune Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I've seen that bridge on factory SGs, but not the stop.
80LPC Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 My '79 SG has the rectangular Schaller bridge. Most SGs of the '70s had them also. It was also fitted to some LPs and the L5-S. The TP-6 fine tuning tailpiece was fitted to various Gibsons from 1978, but not as far as I know to any SG.
KL Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Lots of people modify their hardware so I wouldn't discount it as a fake based on that alone.
met1977 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 ok but why don't the freakin horns line up that don't look right to me. Every sg I have seen The horns or cutaways are pretty well even and not so much on this one............Just my 2 cents..........
80LPC Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Fakers follow the money. This is a late '70s SG with 3 piece body, but the more unusual tobacco burst.
Murph Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Lots of people modify their hardware so I wouldn't discount it as a fake based on that alone. I wasn't. Just an observation.
cwness Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Did a google search and learned it looks just like a 79 SG. Here's pic of a white 79. Like was posted google is your friend I don't think he used his on advice. CW

kevoT Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 @met1977 a lot of SG's were made like this weren't they? i think this is what many SG's now a days are lacking of 0_____0
Suicidehummer Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Wow, really guys? This shouldn't even be a discussion; it's clearly real, it doesn't take an SG expert to tell that. Who the hell would fake a '79 SG anyway? The only thing that's not right to me is the tailpiece which could easily be aftermarket.
