Rui Barata Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Maybe this is a bit off topic for this forum section but here it goes.... I'm using an electronic tuner which uses 440Hz as the standard reference value for A. However I feel the strings are too tight so I'm wondering if I should use another frequency. I'm learning blues scales and solos. Is there any other reference I can use to play the blues? Thanks
BigKahune Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 You can practice the same scales and solos at whatever lower reference tone you want to tune at - if you're talking about loosening the strings for practice. I always use 440 for tuning. It's standard. If you want to play along in tune with a recording or other musicians you'll need to go half steps (tones) either way from A (440) so you can transpose or capo into the right key.
NeoConMan Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I feel the strings are too tight Step down one gauge. If you're using 10's, put 9's on it at your next string change.
