katetot Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I know that one of the reason is the finish..Nitro finishes are prone to these issues..But my question is whats the best thing to do to lessen the stickiness with out damaging the paint behind the neck? Any advice is well appreciated!
yoda Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Lighter fluid on a cotton cloth, and play it. P.S. You do not need to type in bold big letters, it is the same as yelling!
swleary Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 omg I so badly have an answer for this one but have to behave lol.... Just play it and that'll help it...also wipe it down too

NeoConMan Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Axe, you s'pose they have Old English lemon oil polish or Zippo lighter fluid in Singapore? Or was the secondary message more important......? [biggrin]/

AlanC Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 This is a problem that I've had for about 2-3 years with a brand new guitar that I bought in 2007. Playing it does not lead to an improvement. I've played it a lot over an extended period and the neck still gets sticky. Whenever it gets sticky I apply polish and that fixes it for about 30 minutes but again the neck will become sticky. The tech guy I go to used a cutting compound to lightly cut the nitro and that's helped a bit but it still gets sticky. Not sure what the cure is!
NeoConMan Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Keep it clean, wipe it with a dry cloth after you play it. Leave it out of the case if possible. I used to keep my Gibsons on a stand, covered with a large cotton sheet to ward off dust. The paint may cure a bit more quickly that way. After a couple years, I dunno.
efp Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Not tried it so take no responsibility.. But I did read in a certain guitar magazine of a top player whose name I forget who solved this problem by keeping new guitars in a bag of cat litter, presumably on the basis that it would draw out the sovent from the nitro.
Kolera Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Lighterfluid and wipedowns + time works. So does the search-function.
katetot Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 Sorry about the bold letters! hehehe..btw i think i'd be settling with dry cloth wipedowns coz I have some issues with lighter fluids. I remember it makes my skin itchy when i was still smoking and using zippo.. Thanks for all the advices!
