New CS-336

So after numerous trial and errors, I finally was able to walk out of my local store a happy camper (now thrilled is more like it!).

I had swapped my LP and Blueshawk towards a satin 335 over the weekend, but discovered a flaw in it.

When I went back the 1st time I was rushed (closing time) and really wasn't too happy with the remaining 335s. After some over-night research, the next day I thought I had finally decided on a nice es-339F, but also realized there was 1 VSB 335 I would have been happy with which had I passed by at 1st. I went with the 339, just barely, over the nice 335. Then the 339 didn't work out under closer inspection (which was just as well).

By this time the owner, who mentioned fate may be playing a part, was giving me some real good pricing, over their already low prices. Now sold on the smaller size, I went for the throat and picked out a real nice looking 08 CS-336F. When they went to pull the box/case, they discovered a new 07 CS-336, that just hadn't been messed with. While not QUITE as figured flame-wise, it had a more unique grain, and was really just cleaner.

After spending some quality time at home with it, so far so good! I think the size suits me better, 'cause I don't lean on it as much as the 335, which tended to 'pinch' my arm a bit. The 335 was aces for tone though, just big(ger) sound I guess esp. unplugged, and well...it is big...impressive size-wise too. But this 336 can hold its own - it sounds really good (I love 57 pups), and it does indeed feel better to play for me. And for some reason I like the idea of solid components instead of laminated. For the great price I got, which ended up just a bit more then the 339 & 335, I am glad fate played its part!

Weight is about 7.2#s, of course way lighter then my old LP Traditional (@9.4#).

Congrats! 336's are wonderful guitars, and that one has an interesting look.

FWIW, I'm still in love with my CS-356 seven years later and have found that it's very sensitive to even small adjustments in pickup height -- so have fun dialing yours in!

Congrats on your new 336. Great guitars imho. yours is a fine looking guitar. And a nice story to go along with the whole deal. I have a cs356 and still is 1 of my top guitars.

Great size, full sound and complete compliment of sounds. good find & buy. I think that the 336-356 line is one of the best Gibson makes.

Play the hell out of it.

WOW - Nice guitars!! Jam that is beautiful! The 339 I passed on was a curly top, but in the vintage SB, and not nearly as...vivid as that!

And thanks, All! Best of all its good to be excited about playing again! I'm still learning, and nothing like new toys to renew interest.

My B-I-L plays too (MUCH better) and when I showed him last night I think he was more excited then I was.

Cheers.

Congratulation on obtaining a beautiful guitar. That is a guitar I have been lusting after for the last couple of years. Enjoy.

good onya!

336 = the hotness!

Eljay' date=' I have to agree on this. I got mine on March 25, 2010. I didn't go out with that specific guitar in mind, but like you,

as fate would have it, once I saw this guitar and played it, I knew I had to have it. I have the VS Plain-Top version

and I think it is absolutely beautiful and playing-wise the best electric guitar I've ever owned.[blink Mine looks much like the one you have pictured below.

It's my main gigging guitar now.
