Invader Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Does anyone know about a les paul copy called a Mark II from the 70's 80's??? Just curious I found one but cant find anything about it... Its a bolt on neck so I know its not that sought after but I just wanted to find some info.. I was not sure where to post this any help appreciated. Thanks
Tim Plains Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Not to sound like a jerk or anything but try another forum. This is Gibson's official forum and there's not much love for copies here...especially, in the Les Paul section. Try The Gear Page, My Les Paul...I'm sure there's more.
kevoT Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Hmmm no expert on les paul's here (i'm an sg man myself) but does gibson make bolt on necks on any of their guitars? my guess is that it's probably a fake.
kevoT Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Oh, i guess i know a little more then :) but still no info if it's real or not i still say it's fake.
Invader Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Yes it is a fake its a 70's lawsuit era LP and I was seeing if anyone new about it on here because myself and everyone I know started on LP or Strat copies before we could afford the real thing so i thought someone would know something. But I guess I asked in the wrong place....:)
Invader Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Whats the matter Bill??? Dude yer freakin me out!
Tim Plains Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 but still no info if it's real or not i still say it's fake. No info if it's real or fake?? the guy said COPY in the subject line. What do you think it is?
Big Bill Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 My first guitar I bought was a Cortez Les Paul Copy, I think it was 1976. Man that thing just sucked, I got nothing but feedback.
Invader Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 I bet you wish you still had it though huh Bill?
80LPC Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Invader, there was a LP copy called Hondo II - a poor quality guitar although later versions had decent DiMarzio pickups. Although this was the lawsuit era, these bolt-ons share nothing with the true 'lawsuit' guitars which were actually good quality.
Jantha Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 First guitar I bought was a Hondo II... $80 from a pawn shop. It WAS poor quality, but it did the job until I gathered up the money for a real LP.
Big Bill Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I bet you wish you still had it though huh Bill? If you asked that before I got my Gibson I would have said yes, it would have made an alright project guitar. Now that I have a real Lester, that thing would just be taken up some space.
Big Bill Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I thought that we wanted to get feedback in 76. The feedback I was getting made the guitar unplayable. It was like microphone feedback, I know there is a proper name for that but it escape me at this point. The pups were supposed to be humbuckers, but when you took the cover off, it had a real cheap single coil. I was only 13 at the time, or else I would have upgraded the damn things.
jnastynebr Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Still have my first guitar, a 78' Ventura SG copy. Forgot I had it until about a year ago. Its total sh*t, but I played it so much it has a cool natural relic job.
80LPC Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 First guitar I bought was a Hondo II... $80 from a pawn shop. It WAS poor quality' date=' but it did the job until I gathered up the money for a real LP.[/quote'] My first guitar also. I really liked the neck profile, but the strings would buzz. One day I had enough, put the guitar on the floor and stood on the fretboard around the 10th fret. There was a crack, and I presumed it was firewood... Checked it over, and no crack or damage anywhere - the paint hadn't even crazed. The buzz had gone, and it played great.
Blackie Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 ..........mmm.......my worthless *** dad got me a kay strat body lookin 1 pickup piece of crap.........I modded it into what looked like a 3 pup strat. then I pulled the neck and componants and cut my own explorer body.........I put the bridge where I thought it looked the best... ....yeah I soon learned that the bridge needs to be the same distance from the twelfth fret.....when I went to tune up.........ha aha hahha But yeah........we don't have the time to be overly friendly to a copy guitar owner asking about it here.......Get you a real guitar ....a Gibson.
Eracer_Team Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 My dad used to beat us kids up until we left when I was age 9... Wish my dad had just bought me a "worthless *** kay strat body lookin 1 pickup piece of crap" instead.
