Name that Axe!

Recommended Posts

C'mon, we've all given our beloved guitars names. Haven't we? Here's a few of mine: Greenie, The Tin Man, Oscar Schindler, Mr. Rocket, Brown Sugar, BumbleBeast, Sangria, Lolita and one I've yet to name.

I only have a name for two of my guitars.... If you look at my current avatar you will see the Evil Twins... I don't know why I call them that it just sort of came out one day and stuck... Maybe it's cause they are twins but were born one year apart from each other and are different colors...[cool]

I tried but never could.

My Explorer was "Cap'n Crunch" and my Les Paul Vintage Mahognay was "Woodster"

The names never took, so I just call'em by what they are.

I've been tossing around a name for my Les Paul,

The Wonky Cross

Because when I rewired it with new parts it didn't work. The week after I tried again twice. The first time it didn't work again, then I burnt the lacquer off the back of my guitar and it looked like a cross with wiggly lines, and that time the guitar worked.

Its kinda retarded name but its the only name that is suitable because it has a story to back it up.

Well, I toyed around with a few names for my SG: "Buck" (after Buck Dharma,) "Julie" (long story behind that one,) and "The Red One" (a little obvious.) Usually I just call it my SG, because it's an SG and it's mine. I'm not opposed to naming guitars--I guess it's just that, for me, it seems a little too hokey, and besides nothing has really ever stuck.

I also toyed around with calling my Guild classical guitar "Darlene," but again, I guess I feel silly naming my guitars, so I think I'll just keep them with the names that they came with. [blush]

Nope don't name them and probably never will until they start coming if I call and even robot's aren't at that point yet. I call them by model and year and color like a 2006 Honeyburst. I guess I use a name if they are made with a name like my Trussart Dragon is the dragon my Brian Setzer etc.

I don't name guitars as a rule, nor ever have done. I've no objection to the practice; I just never thought of any of my guitars in that way.

The one exception is my R0. My daughter asked me what it's name was. She was three at the time and everything she knew had a name. I called it 'Marmalade'. Seemed appropriate.

Although the other guitars in this snap don't have names, per se, I do think of them as being 'Hugh' (VSB) and 'Betty' (HSB). In each instance I happened to have bought the instrument quite soon after the death of, first, my father and then my mother. They remind me of my folks each time I pick one or other up. I don't actually call them by their names, though.

Cue; Gratuitous Guitar Porn. Here they all are.
