chet449 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 My dad has had his 1960 Gibson since about 1960. We have no clue the model, value, or series. We can not seem to find it on the internet anywhere. This particular model has 2 knobs and 2 switches rather then the 4 knobs we have seen on other similar models. If anyone has any idea what I am talking about it would be a huge help. I will be posting a picture as soon as I can. Thanks to anyone who responds I know this is a longshot.
jimmiJAMM Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Well even without pics we know it's not an SG. The first one was made in 1961. 2 switches and 2 knobs sounds unusual. Can't wait to see this thing.
chet449 Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Thank you for that bit of Info. I had read it on Wiki but I am glad you confirmed. I will have a picture some time tonight. I appreciate the help.
Yew Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Neo, 1960 was 50 years ago, he is allowed to be a bit innaccurate =P
chet449 Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 Ok i feel like an idiot Ive been clicking on the insert image button and trying to post these pictures yet i find myself doing nothing. How do i get pictures posted?
NeoConMan Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Quick & Easy - Get a photo-hosting account like Yahoo's Flick'r. Post the pics there, then you can put them here for viewing.
chet449 Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 im at work on company time so i did the next best thing. I made my "avatar" the picture i needed people to see. If anyone has any answers about this guitar it would be F***ing sweet. Thanks
L5Larry Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Looks like it's from the '71 -'72 era when Gibson was using the control plate on the front of the guitar, as well as an LP type pickguard on the SG's, but I'm not familiar with a single pickup model from that era. It could be one of Gibson's infamous "transition" models, and might be an SG Junior from the transition period between the "batwing" models to the front control plate models. Additional detailed pictures, serial number and potentiometer codes would help narrow it down.
Blackie Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Oh yeah ............70's...........still an admired SG.
BigKahune Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Yeah, Larry nailed it. Looks like an SG II, made 1971-1979 - from Everything SG. This example has a Schaller (BadAss) intonable bridge.
chet449 Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 I can not get any more picture unfortunately. However the picture from bigkahune covers it for the most part.. The serial number 052464 on the back of the neck. if anyone knows anything more that would be great.
