ics1974 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Is the Explorer supposed to have balanced volume between the bridge and neck pickups? I have to set the neck to 1mm and the bridge to almost 4mm to have a balanced volume because that 500T is so hot. I also tried the one nickle treble 2 nickle bass but the volume is still uneven. Maybe the bridge pickup is supposed to be louder then the neck?
e/2 Explorer Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Your bridge pup puts out roughly double what your neck pup puts out. The only way to balance them other then adjusting the bridge pup volume down is to match the neck volume is by putting in a comparable low output bridge pup ie. if your neck pup puts out 8.3 then you would want a bridge pup around 8.3

I'm good with that then. Thanks
Riffster Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 The 500T is a powerful pickup, here is mine clocking at a sizzling hot 16.29...
Hydra26 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I'm no expert, but I've found that although they're not my first choice, I can do more with and appreciate the sound of a 500t better than some of the other pups commonly used in hi gain applications. My preferred set these days is a 57 Classic/57 Classic+, but I (the operative word in this sentence is "I") can do a lot more with a 496r/500t than with a EMG 81/85 set. I'm not knowedlegable enough to back that up with anything so it's just my subjective opinion, FWIW.
